Meg's exhausting journey TTC#1

September 22, 2008

Hello Ladies! My name is Megan, I'm 27 years old, and my husband and I have been TTC our first child for about 3.5 years. I found this site by accident when searching for common side effects of clomid (which I started in late July). This site is great, and ever since I found it I have been hooked!

A little more background on me - my husband and I started TTC about 6 months after we got married, late in 2004 or early in 2005. I had only been off of the Nuvaring for about 4 months at the time we started TTC (after 3 years of use), so I really didn't expect to get pregnant right away (and I didn't). My OB/GYN told me that it could take me a year or two to get pregnant after coming off of birth control, so I wasn't incredibly upset when a year, a year and a half, and even two years went by. Of course, the entire time my husband and I were TTC (using OPK's, etc.), regardless of what the doctor said. My husband had a child from a previous relationship, so I was sure he had super sperm, and could get me pregnant in no time! I was wrong!

It never really occured to me that there could be something wrong with me that would keep us from conceiving, so we continued to try, and try, and try. . . but to no avail. We tried trying, we tried not trying (which is really annoying by the way), I tried standing on my head after BDing, I tried propping my hips up on a pillow, we tried all of the different positions. . . nothing. Finally I went in to see my OB/GYN to ask for help - just a few months ago. He ordered a SA for my husband (which came back normal of course), and he ordered a HSG for me (and let me tell you - that was a load of fun (insert sarcasm here) - I bet a ton of you ladies can relate!). I just had my HSG done in July of this year (2008), and imagine the fact that both of my tubes were blocked! My OB was able to unblock both tubes (luckily), and he thought we would have no trouble conceiving. . . . .

One month of trying "naturally", and two months of Clomid later (soon to be three), here I stand, still not pregnant. I have watched many of my friends, family members, and coworkers get pregnant, and I can not. My DH has been incredibly supportive through this whole ordeal, which is great =), but the other person I would normally turn to for support - my mother - has been a horrible support system for me. She doesn't understand "what the big deal is", and she makes innapropriate (I think anyway) statements like "can you afford a baby anyway?" and "daycare and diapers are expensive you know". We both have good jobs. . .we own our home. . . it's so disheartening. . . not to mention the exhausting monthly rollercoaster of TTC! If only my mother knew how much the u/s, blood tests, meds, ect. were, she would have a coronary!

Anyway - that's enough about me! I'm thrilled to be here with others who are going through similar situations, and hope that I can help be a support system for the ladies on this site in their TTC journey =)! Thanks everyone!!!

Hi Ladies! Thanks for all the well wishes, and thanks Alita for your kind words.

We just got back from the transfer. We transfered in two blasts, one day 5 and one day 6, both lovely quality. The others that were day 4 yesterday stalled out, so the RE didn't think it would be helpful to put any of them in with the good ones.

Now I''m back home. . .a little loopy from the Valium, but definitely here and laying down. The RE said these little ones will implant today so she again stressed total bedrest and no moving=). FX this is it for us ladies!!!!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Meg, so did none of the others make it either? Didn't they thaw 10? Out of those 10, you had two good ones, right? So the others stopped growing? Man! I was hoping for more for you, but you won't need them.. you are going to have twins and all will be great!! You may not want anymore after twins :)
