Measuring Bigger... What does it mean?

July 23, 2008

Hi Dr.Q and Ladies!

I'm hoping you can help me out with this. I had my 30 week appointment today. I'm 30 weeks pregnant today! And I am measuring over 31 weeks and the doctor said I have a big baby and said he weighs around 4 lbs. Does this mean anything? My expected due date is October 1st but I'm wondering since I am measuring bigger that maybe I will go a little sooner than that? Is it normal to be measuring larger? Thanks so much for your help!

Ohh, I also have been having horrible heartburn. Of course I forgot to mention this to my doctor when I was there. I dont get it during the day at all but it keeps me up at night. Is there anything I can do to prevent it? I dont think it matters what I eat because last night I ate a few graham crackers before bed and I didnt think you could get heartburn from graham crackers but lately I get it from anything I eat! Even water!

Keller, it is very normal to measure one week bigger. I did with my son and he was just a bigger baby than my other children. I have heard of a lot of women measuring bigger! So, ur A-OKAY!

Also, I get the WORST heartburn ever when Im preggers and my doc writes me a script for it and it works sooooo well! I would talk to your doc about it. It can help ya out a lot!

Aww sweetie im sure its fine you are measuring bigger and maybe he will come a week or so sooner. Gosh 4 pounds already I cant wait. He is getting close!!!

Also with heartburn I usually do TUMS. I get it really bad with everything too. It sucks, its soo bad that I have to sit there and concentrate and swallow because it feels like its coming up my throat and burns so bad. Its the worse heartburn I have ever had, because before pregnancy I would get it but not like this. I really like the berry Tums that they have out now, they taste really good.

Waiting on that 30week pic!

Hi Maria, I just wanted to share my experience. When I was 37wks I was measuring 41 wks gestation! And the baby was measuring 8 1/2 lbs so I was induced because according to the u.s. he had broad shoulders. Well he was born weighing only 7 10oz. So look how off that u.s. was and I went to a special place for my ultrasound, not at the obgyn, but the week earlier I at my obgyn their u.s. also said big baby.

I used to take Gavascon for heart burns and it works wonders!

My baby always measured 1 wk ahead exactly..I know when I o'd too. He ended up being born at 35 wks and was exactly 6 lbs which is what the u/s showed 1 wk prior to birth.

Its not a big deal and you probably won't have him extremely early...your doc should be able to fill you in..in the next few wks.

Well at 36 weeks i was measuring 52 weeks so you are good!! lmao my doctor was one ounce off on both girls. i can't believe you are getting so close!!! YAY!!!

Shelly!!! The girls are adorable!!!! Please post more pictures!!

Maria- I was the same as Sar..delivered DS at 38 weeks via C section becuase they estimated him at a whopping 9 lbs.. well he wasn't even that! So I am not sure those U/S are very accurate

Hey...I agree with everyone else.....It's pretty normal to measure a week early. I did a few times during my pregnancy. You little one may be in a growth spurt or they may just be bigger. Probably nothing to worry about. Now I had the opposite happen than Caryn and Sarah....the doc said Caden was going to be average (6-7lbs) and I got 8lbs,9ozs!! Haha! So one never knows until they arrive. I hope you are great! 10 weeks left! Hugs!

Congrats on how close your getting ..and I agree with Chrissy we need some belly shot photos soon! I am aslo measuring one week off..I should be 19 on sat but am measuring a 20 on sat so my doc moved my week up one not that it really matters cuz I am having a nother csection :) good luck
