LP Defect Question

July 22, 2008

It has become clear that I have an LP defect. I ovulate late in my 28 day cycle. I'm on my second round of Clomid (100 mg on days 3 -7 this cycle) and as of today (CD15) I have not received a + OPK. In fact, the test line is not showing up. I had a trans-vaginal u/s on Friday and my OB indicated that I had 3 follicles that looked ready to ovulate, one of them measured 20.

My question is: If it is obvious that my LP is going to be short again this cycle, should we continue to actively ttc or should we avoid getting pg this cycle? If I were to conceive, is there something that can be done about the short LP, or would I be doomed to another m/c? Follow up question: how many days past ovulation can a quant hcg diagnose pregnancy?

Thank you in advance.

the meds should make you ovulate earlier and if that doesnt work they can give you progesterone to help.

A blood test can give you a + as early as 10 days past ovulation but most docs like to wait til at least 12 or 14 due to chemical pregnancies.

What do you mean by lp being late...normal lp length is 14 days after ovulation given a +/- 2 day window. Usually in the fertility world short lp window is not proven fact that is recongized. Now being on clomid can make you ovulate later than you normally do if you ovulate on your own. Now did you're do give you a trigger shot to help you ovulate. If you ovualte you can take a hpt or beta by 12dpo....

Miscarriages are due to factors out of our control

I was ovulating around day 19 of my 28 day cycle. No trigger shot, the Clomid is help with ovulation. With 50mg Clomid last cycle I ovulated on day 17.

ok do you do your temps (bbt's) to confirm ovulation? Plus how have you been feeling...any breast tenderness, feeling warm, tireness, being moody...anything like that???

Loaded question. First of all, you should be on progesterone supplementation starting about 3 days after you ovulate. That will help your LPD. Next, I would try clomid no more than 4 times before proceeding to more effective ways of developing your follicles, like injectable gonadotropins... Also, you can tell if you are pregnant approximately 12 days after ovulation.
