Looking for cycle buddies...going with IUI this month (Sep 2009)

September 16, 2009

Well, we have decided to go to IUI this month to help our chances and I'm looking for cycle buddies. We are on CD 2 (only!!).

My background - I have a year old son who took three years to conceive so we started trying again for baby number 2 three months ago and no success. I have been diagnosed with PCOS and have been using clomid (round 1, no success and left a cyst on my ovary), femara (round 2, no success but no cyst either!) so now we are on Femara, Metformin and trying IUI for round 3. I also have a HSG this coming monday that I am super scared for!

I have been trying to meet some cycle buddies for support and to give support to. I know how hard this process is with the ups and downs with our first go around.

Thanks in advance and here is hoping for BFP's all around!!!!

I completely agree with Lake, MAYO is the best! We have the main clinic in my neck of the woods and they are miracle workers! You are on the right track for sure.

Lake - I only got a "semi good" beta score today:

11 dpo - 100 beta (unknown proges)

13 dpo - 172 beta and 74 progesterone

I'm scheduled to go back in on Monday to run the numbers again.

My hubby did something sweet today too. I came home and found Mason's room all turned around with his bed on the floor and with a pressure gate around him so he can't get out - basically he set it up so Mason can crawl in and out of the bed himself without me having to lift him. Mason is LOVIN it too - it is so cute.

Don't you love these DH's when they show us why we are smitten with their love!

TTC - can't wait to see how those follies are growing!

Thanks guys. I am confident that it will work too. I wish my doctor was more personable but the good ones usually are kinda socially inept lol. I'm thinking Dr. House anyone with me lol.

Lake~ those numbers are great! I am sure that everything will be fine. so exciting! That is so cute that your hubby gets daily updates. I am gonna encourage DH to do the same. I think he would enjoy it.

Kim~ Do you remember what your numbers were around the same time with Mason? I am sure everything is fine.

TTC~ what is going on with you now? I hope everything is well.

Thanks for all the encouragement with the weight stuff. I don't feel like I am super huge. I lost 3 pounds btw. Not that I care but it is nice to know that I am not gaining. It just annoys me when they should know better than to tell someone to lose weight when their body won't let them. Sure I could loose maybe 25 pounds but I would gain it all back and then some! I actually e-mailed the author of that book I told you guys about and she will get back to me on PCOS and HAES to see what she says about how a screwed up body can regulate their weight. I just don't want to gain. Right now I am the same sizes as my friends and the skinny one on both sides of my family. I want it to stay that way. I mean it's not like I smoke or do drugs. Then I could understand...

Hey WP! Everything is going good here. I finished up my 150mg Clomid this month, had the HSG and now I have my CD12 u/s tomorrow...hoping for more than one follicle! :o) I'm feeling very optimistic this month! It's nice to actually feel positive about this, but it's scary at the same time because I hate the disappointment if it doesn't work out. We'll see tomorrow, but I'm guessing we're looking at another IUI in about a week and a half. DH and I are heading to Louisiana to be with my family for Thanksgiving so I'm hoping it's early enough that I can test down there and deliver the news in person! :o) How many dpIUI did you ladies get your BFP's??

Thanks Lake and WP for your good wishes - I looked back to my numbers with mason and 13 dpo my HCG was 64 and 16 dpo I was at 285. After that at 18 dpo I was at 634. Basically I had no troubles doubling numbers. All I can do at this point is hope and pray!

TTC - I got my positive at 10dpiui.

so... I am wondering now if it is possible that nothing will work to get me to ovulate. Just a what if... like if the clomid doesn't work and none of the injectables work...then what? Is there anything else they can do? I don't think there is. I am just wondering because I feel like my body is going through the options really fast and I am gonna run out soon.

Also any information you girls can give me about the injections would be great. Like what is a high dose? What meds are the best? What is the best delivery method and what days would I most likely take it? Is it painful and do I have to go to the doctor's office to do it? What if it doesn't work cuz even doing the IVF they need to harvest eggs right?

Hey Wishing, how are you doing? You must be close to testing, right?

WP - don't let you mind go there if you can. Injectables have over a 95% sucess rate of ovulation - so it will happen(if it does not with clomid)! Definitely try to go on follistem if you can, they will probably start you around 75 units since you have PCOS (like me). Repronex is another form, but those shots leave a painful spot for days, plus you have to mix the shot each time. The follistem shot is so super easy, all I did was tell myself, ok just touch the needle to me skin and then I can go from there. As soon as the needle touched my skin it was in. It is so super tiny that it goes in like a breeze. My best spots were just below and around my belly button. I never felt any pain there.

BTW - how was your u/s today?

I too have heard of the 95% success rate. I don't see why they wouldn't be able to make me ovulate unless I didn't have any eggs and based on my age and that I don't have ovarian failure of anything I should have eggs somewhere right?

I actually didn't have any ultrasound today. It is next week Friday. lol sorry. But I did have blood work done today. I don't really see the point of the blood work because I already had that with my OBGYN and I brought the results to him. I just know it will cost us 50 bucks or so and I feel that it is kinda a waste. He wants to confirm PCOS but when we did the ultra sound he knew right away. I don't think there was a question in his mind after he saw my ovaries. They have never looked so bad. I wonder if it was the type of ultra sound I had last time but I remember seeing this oval that was my ovaries and around the outside there were about four black circles on top and four on the bottom. This time it seemed like my ovaries were all bubbles! There was no middle oval. I dunno. Last time I had the u/s done I think I was just coming off of BC pills so maybe that was controlling the hormones enough to get rid of the PCOS for a while.

One other thing is that I am now on Metformin and clomid so wouldn't that screw with the results of the blood test? If so why is he bothering? He mentioned that it prolly would mess with it so I just don't see the point...

oh one other thing~

Today I am gonna take my 3rd dose of clomid 150mg and this morning when I woke up I saw tracers out of my right eye. When I moved my arm I would see the outline of where it was a second ago up to about 4 inches from my arm! crazy stuff. lol. Had fun playing with it though. lol
