Thanks Dr. Q! I wonder why he wanted me to start the OPK on cycle day 10....seems to me that I'm just wasting my money and time because I'll need to buy another package of tests to make it if I stay on track with a 31 day cycle.
Late period..does that change my cycle length?

Hi Dr. Q!
I was wondering, if my last 6 cycles were all 31 days but my last period was 9 days late and it lasted for four days. Does that mean I should no longer consider my cycles 31 days? I am not using any fertility drugs. My doctor recommended that I use an OPK this month starting on cycle day 10 and if it doesn't show positive by cycle day 15 then they'll want to do a blood test. I'm not sure what they'd test for...maybe ovulation or projesterone? When do you think I'll ovulate given my past cycle lengths but keeping in mind my last period was 9 days late?

I would still stay on track with the 31 day cycle, would predict ovulation from here by subtracting 14 days, and consider the last one an aberration. If your OPK isn't positive, your doc will probably check for ovulation, and check the following hormones: Estrogen, Progesterone, LH.
