Late Ovulation and Short Luteal Phase

March 01, 2008

Hi there. My cycles have always been irregular, so I have been charting for the past 5 months as part of my efforts to conceive. I have noticed that I only have an 11 to 12 day luteal phase each cycle (with spotting the day before I get my full period). Is this too short of a luteal phase? Also, I tend to ovulate later in my cycle - usually between days 18 to 21, though this month I just got a positive ovulation test strip and it is day 26 for me. Is this something to be concerned about? I have heard that the egg and the endometrium will be too old to support a proper pregnancy so late and that a short luteal phase will also prevent the embryo from implanting. Should I be worried?

i think you are right at that point of it would be ok if you got pregnant. If you are having a LP of 12 days that is a-ok, 11 days may not be all the wonderful but still ok. I thought that i read that ovulating after CD 20 is an issue, and it isnt always an issue it just "can be" and issue. The embryo implants around day 6-10, and usually its ealry like around 6,7 or 8. I have cycles of 31 days, always have, and typically ovulate around day 17 or so and i have 2 children without any issues gettng preggo at that time.

Each month even when you hit the most fertile days you still only have a 20-25% chance of conceiving so i wouldnt start to worry just yet. How old are you? If under 30 they will let you go for a year before thinking something is wrong, if over 30 then only give it 6 months and then get some tests done, both male and female. 40% of all fertiltiy issues are male related.

I would say to keep up with the charting and have sex every other day starting on CD 12 or 13 and then when you get the +OPK have sex for the next 3 nights, skip a day and then do it agian.

its called the "sperm meets egg plan" and you can look it up on a google search. Works for a lot of ladies :)
