Late (or no) ovulation post IVF?

October 08, 2007

As many of you know, I've just my first IVF last month - BFN. I am hoping to do another in November, if I can afford it.

But I'm also trying naturally to conceive naturally this month, if we can. Yet despite being already on day 11 of my cycle, my fertility monitor is on the low bar, indicating no ovulation in sight yet. (usually it would be the middle by day eight or nine.)

Could the IVF meds have caused me not to ovulate this month, or ovulate late? I'm desperate to know this because my donor is on a tight schedule and we'd hoped to start tomorrow. Would appreciate some advice!!

Thank you, S

Hi Sally,

The creation of cysts from all the follicles that were produce is a strong possibility after IVF, and not unlikely to miss your period because of this. You cycles will eventually normalize if this is the case, and the only way to know would be to have an ultrasound.. Good luck, and keep us posted...

But I'm confused...if I miss my period, how can I have another IVF in November? And will I still ovulate this month? (I usually ovulate at around day thirteen...I'm already at day eleven and nowhere near it.) I need to organize my inseminations for this natural cycle.

Thanks so much again for all your help...

Hi Sally,

If you truly have a cyst keepin you from having a period, a cyst aspiration can be performed if you decided to have IVF...that's how it's managed...We're wishing you the best of luck :)

But - and I'm so sorry to be dense about this - my primary concern right now is ovulation; do you think there's a chance I may not ovulate this month or that my ovulation could be late due to the meds?

Difficult to say Sally in your case if you're going to ovulate this month, as cysts can be common after IVF. You'd have to see an RE in the UK to see if there are any and/or if follicular development is occuring...

Fair enough (been trying to save money for future IVF's, and those scans are quite expensive.) Funny though - this morning the monitor is still on low, but my temps have dipped and my cervical mucous is eggwhitey. So I could be fertile anyway? In the past, I once had a harmless cyst resulting from clomid which, according to my gynocologist, blocked the monitor's reading but did not keep my from ovulating. So maybe something similar is happening now...
