Ladies Question about Breast feeding!!!
June 10, 2008
Okay so at first I was like NO WAY NOT BREASTFEEDING!!! Now I am warming up to the idea..
I just wanted to know what am I in for..
Those of you who recently gave birth can you answer some questions for me?
1. when did your milk come in
2. did it hurt when the milk came in
3. did you find it uncomfortable to the point where you were unable to move around easily when the milk came in? I ask this question because i want to be able to do thing with the babies you know instead of tied to a bed or couch in pain becuase of sore breast. My sister told me that when her milk came in that she could barley get out of bed..that was with her thrid child...
3. umm and any other things that you can think of positives and pluses about the events surrounding breast feeding..
Thanks for all of your help!!

thanks so much kelli..so where can i rent one of those hospital pumps from because i want to do the most efficent thing if i am gonna get up the nerve to go through with this. if i do breast feed i plan to pump all the milk and bottle feed.. i want my fiance to be able to feed also both babies..and i don't want to make it any harder than it may be at night..so maybe i will breast feed during the day and pump some bottles at night..does that sound good.
Well i was reading that when you have twins there is not need for back up formula because they will keep the supply and demand going because one will be on each breast..but maybe someone can help me on that one also...
Also does breast feeding make your breast sag?? that was just something that i heard along time ago and it could be wrong and just a myth or rumor..LOL
Thanks so much kelli for your response..

You are welcome! Glad to help!
Your lactation consultants at the hospital can give you a list of #s to call on where to rent one. I can't remember the price..but cheaper than formula!
I would just keep one large can at first of formula just in case..you just never know what could happen and you have to have something to feed them. I would agree tho...you should have no issue with milk supply.
It does take longer to pump and then feed..but I did it too..when I went back to work, and also b/f hand to safe some up for storage..so you'll be fine.
Honestly, I think everyone is different. My breasts weren't saggy afterward..but I'd say more like softer. Now after he had turned maybe 18 months or 2 yrs old.. I think they are back to normal state...but again..ppl are different. I read its not breastfeeding that makes them sag..but pregnancy.

Yes, girls..it is painfull in the beginning..but not to be a 'Debbie Downer'..think of how bad it would be if you never pumped or b/f and let it dry up right away..it would hurt soo much worse!
I say go for it..if it works it works and if not..you tried! Formula fed babies are fine too!
Good luck guys!

Hey punkin..its ok..just trying to control my naughty lil ds here while I type..lol.
My hospital had lactation consultants..and it was a part of the whole deal...they came in and asked you if you want to do it..and they were there every step of the way..even after you go home..sometimes they'll offer a home visit..or you can call for questions. There is also the La Leche group..don't know if they have a website or not..but you can call with questions.

I also had another question too..I am really getting on you alls nerves right..well when my sister came home with her first baby..they gave her meds to dry up her milk..well she went home and she got in the shower and let the hot water hit her chest and she got a fever that night..and had chills and stuff..so she had to get more medication..so they gave her meds to dry it up before the milk even came..has anyone ever heard of this..
I just want to comment on the pump issue.
I recommend looking into a Medela Pump in Style breast pump if you are serious about breastfeeding and pumping.
I was lucky enough to have my aunt GIVE me her's but it was used so far thru 4 children (I used mine for a minimum of 9 months and at least 5 times a day).
My pump is still going strong.
I believe they retail for about $250-$295, but well worth the money in my opinion.
Just wanted to throw that out there!
Good luck on your decision(s).

I thought the best part of having a baby was brstfeeding..might sound weird..but it brings you soo close to your baby! I quit after 6 months and after I did it..I just bawled..I missed it soo much! Can't wait for it again.
Anyways..to answer your questions. I brstfed just a few hrs after he was born. I don't think he got much more than colustrum the first few days..but I was pumping like crazy. Hospital grade pumps are the best..rent one! Anyways...think my milk came in around day 3 or 4 and yes it hurt like hell..but only for a day or so..b/c I pumped it out like mad. Heating pads and tylenol helped as well. Honestly I think it hurts just as bad to let them dry up if not worse, so don't worry about the pain..b/c eventually you will have to go thru it regardless of what you choose to do. I say go for it..but def. have some formula on backup esp. with twins.
Good luck and your hospital will have lactation consultants on hand to help you as much as possible!
