Labouring

Is it true that most women follow a similar labouring that their mothers did? My mom had all three of her children within under 3 hours of her first contraction starting. Should I expect the same?

Hi Liane I never heard of that...it's one of those wise tells....dh's mum had 7 kids and all were different. Plus with my mother and her mum. Really thinking it about I would say 100% no. Every woman is different and every pregnancy is different. I know with talking with my friends, family blood and per marriage all is very different...some type of wise tale out there.

although not fully studied to understand if this is true, there may be some truth behind this as genetics may play a role in th is...but then again as we know, each pregnancy is different

Liane-Well I say, if you do follow your moms labor pattern, thats GREAT a short quick labor! My mom and I both had sections.. while my sister delivered both her girls naturally, the first came in about 4 hours, the second in about 2. They do say labors get shorted with each subsequent delivery..

They do say that each labor is shorter but I proved that theory wrong when I had Cameron. Victoria was 12 hrs, Matthew was 6hrs and then here comes Cameron at a whopping 27hrs. LOL

Actually Sarah I heard that if it has been like more than 5 years between having children it is like you never had any and you will have a long labor again but I dont know if that is true or not. I am going to speak with my doctor about this. It is a 2 hour drive into the city when I do go into labor with these little ones. If my mom had all of her babies in 3 hours or less we may be in trouble lol!

Hey Liane.......I had heard that but it didn't fall true for my mom and I. So I think it could but not definitely. Sorry........I hope it does it your case though. Take care!
