Kimmy's Journey

September 08, 2009

I am someone who has always wanted a baby, and have always been afraid I wouldn't be able to get pregnant. My husband and I were married April 5th 2008 after being together 3 years.

I went off the pill (ortho-tri-cyclen-lo) in November 2008. My first cycle after that was 35 days, so only one week later than it had been on the pill. But after that first period....I never got it again.

I finally went to my Dr in April, and she put me on Prometrium (200mg) for 14 days to bring on my period. She thought maybe it would help "reset" my system and that I would start getting it again like normal. Well, I got my period, but then more months went by without anything....I went through boxes and boxes of OPK's before I decided to stop wasting my money.

Went back to the Dr in July with my husband. All of the tests they have done on my blood have showed me at normal levels. She put me on the Prometrium (200mg) for 14 days again, but nothing happened this time. They had me go back to do a blood pregnancy test (obviously I wasn't pregnant!) and my progesterone levels. Both came back low, so onto Provera (10mg) for 7 days.

In the meantime, my husband had his semen analysis done, and it came back with a high count, but low motility and poor shape. So, off to the urologist we went. Nothing was found physically wrong. Retesting showed slightly higher levels but still not that great. They said they would start me on Clomid and we could try on our own for a few months, but if it doesn't work we will probably do IUI.

The Provera got me to start my period! Sept 1 was the first day of my cycle, and I am finally starting Clomid! Had my baseline ultrasound done on 9/3 and started 50mg that day. Taking days 3-9, seven days because they don't know how responsive my body will be. I am going back 9/11 to check my follicles, and I am having my HSG that afternoon as well to make sure my tubes are not scarred or blocked. Stay tuned!

Good luck with the Clomid. It was a lucky charm for me. Got pregnant on round 2 (100 mg) and I'm 32 weeks 4 days pregnant with a baby girl now. I really hope you get that BFP this cycle!

Sending you loads of ovulation dust!

HSG went well today (besides being uncomfy), my tubes are not blocked or scarred, everything looked good!

This morning I also had my follow up ultrasound to check my follicles, and the nurse said they are still pretty small. She said she is not giving up hope yet though, and I am going to go back on Tues 9/15 to get rechecked. I am supposed to hold off on using the OPKs.

Glad to hear all is well with your tubes. Don't give up hope yet on the follies. What CD are you on? Perhaps you may need a higher dose of Clomid if no response. I did not respond to 50 mg, but ovulated and conceived first cycle on 100 mg. Hopefully, you will get some big follies though.

Yesteday (CD17's) OPK was a darker line than it has ever been...but it still wasn't quite as dark as the control line. The nurse this morning told me that I should consider it a positive, as it may not get much darker. I took another one today when I got home from work and it was light again. So maybe that was it? She said she could only see one follicle today...hmm.

On a down note, DH and I have been arguing all week, and therefore have not BD...I was pretty upset when we didn't last night considering the OPK said I was going to ovulate. So hopefully tonight we will get along better and can get back on track...I would hate to miss out on this cycle just because we are crabby!! I'm excited to keep tracking my temp so I can see if the ovulation actually is occuring!

DH and I had a chat Friday night when he got home from work....things are doing better now and we resumed BDing. I am afraid though that I may have missed the prime BD time, since my positive OPK was on Thursday and we did not do the deed until Friday night. But we will see. My fertility nurse told me to BD Friday, Saturday, and Today, so that is what we are doing. Today is CD 20. Going in on Wednesday to get my progesterone level checked to see if it is high enough to sustain a pregnancy, if indeed I am. So here's hoping, but I am paranoid I missed my time frame.
