just a quick question about ovulation and withdrawal method..

January 30, 2008

hi! this is my first time to this web site, and my question is this.. i have a very regular cycle of every 27 days, there for a 26 day cycle. now, can i get pregnant from the withdrawal method? this is our only form of birth control. and if so, how common is it to result in pregnancy? thanks!

Welcome ashley!

The withdrawal method is the most ineffective contraceptive method...with usually about 15%yearly pregnancy rate...

The best way to practice this method is to time it with the rhythm method, in which you can be active after ovulation has occurred...and you can simply do BBTs to know that ovulation has happenned and then there is basically no risk of pregnancy if you start 2 days after ovulation...You can also use OPKs to confirm ovulation...

yup, some of those little guys still get up there even if your man thinks he can pull out before he ejaculates.

Good luck to you!

doctor Q

thank you so much for the reply.so its better to wait until after ovulation.if from day one of cycle to day 27 of new flow, when will i ovulate roughly?

January 30, 2008

i am exactly 27 days apart

January 30, 2008

does that mean i actually have a 26 day cycle?

its normally 14 days before your next period that you ovulate and you should not have sex for 4days before ovulation and the day of just to be safe.

even if its a 26/27 day cycle?god, being a woman can be so confusing. ecspecially when you thought you knew your body.

usually the LP (the phase between ovulation and period) doesnt change but your time between the first day of your cycle and your ovulation can so you should chart your BBtemp and Ovulation symptoms for a few months so that you can figure out when you are ovulating. It sure is confusing!!!!
