IVF with blocked tubes

I am 35 and TTC#1 for over 2 years. I had a HSG which showed my right tube completely blocked and left side the dye flows all the up but does not flow out.

I just had my first IVF. 30 eggs was retrieved and had 21 embryos on day 3. Two 8 cell embryos, both grade ones were transferred and it was a BFN. We still have 19 3 day embryos frozen, which are all top quality(all 10, 8 and 7 cells) We want to do a Frozen cycle now, but I am afraid that this will not work either. I have read alot about hydrosalpinx, which can reduce the pregnancy rate even with IVF. My RE has has told me whether I have hydro based on the HSG. But, the way I understand it is that hydro diagnosis can only be definitly made via laproscopy. Do you at your center do these laproscopies? Do most RE do these laps? And, how much will it cost to have a diagnostic lap to see hydro and also remove the hydro tube IF present?

I just dont want to go through all the 19 frozen embryos and spend all this money, just to later on find out that I had a hydro that was killing the embryos, and by then I will be 40 years old and have to use a donor egg.

Also, another question: In your experience if one has blocked tubes with no hydro, is the success for pregnancy via IVF less than someone with other diagnosis.

I am sorry Dr. Q, what I meant was that my RE has never told me that I have hydro.

All RE's do laparoscopies and many times even simple insurance will cover their removal, and would talk to your RE...You had a great response and many embryos...am hopeful you will get pregnant..

It is controversial whether if there's one hydro present, should one remove it...there is no question when both tubes have hydros...

FETs still have an exceptional pregnancy rate and tubal factor has the highest pregnancy rate for most all IVF patients...

Sr, I know this post has been a while, but I would really like to know. Have you done another IVF round? Did it work? I only have one tube and it is blocked.

Hi Amanda,

After my failed IVF, I did a frozen embryo transfer (FET)in Feb 2008. I transferred 3 blastocyst. The FET was so much easier and less stressfull than a full IVF cycle. I am now pregnant as a result of that. But, right when they confirmed the pregnancy on ultrasound, 2 days later I ended up in the emergency room. I was told that I had a ectopic rupture in one tube and uterus pregnancy at the same time. I had emergency surgery to remove the ectopic rupture. I lost lots of blood and had 3 days of blood and platelet transfusion and became severly anemic. I was told that there would be 40% chance of miscarry the uterus pregnancy. But, I am 29 weeks pregnant and thing have been going good so far. After all I have gone through, I am still really greatful. I hope that you do an IVF cycle and it will work out for you. Let me know if you have any questions.

I am so sorry for your loss. That is so hard and stressful. I know your happy about the baby you have, but you morn the loss of your other one. I'll pray for you that everything will go well. I guess I don't understand how you can have an ectopic with that. Maybe I need to do some more research. Thank you so much for the info. Hang in there and stay strong. My sister had a baby at 28 weeks and he is fine now. You are past the extreamly criticle part if they do have to take it. They told her the difference between 28 and 30 weeks is HUGE! Stay strong. Keep me informed. Thanks again.

hello just wanted to put some input i have hydro in both tubes and i am getting both tubes removed this year....

i am only 21 years old wich is sad to me being so younge i am ttc baby number one

if i do IVF with my hydro tubes it can greatly affect my ivf outcome.... the fluid in my tubes canb be toxic to an embryo that is implanted in my uterus.,..

there are many reasons why the ivf cycle can fail

but if you do not have hydro u shouldnt worry because there should not be any toxic fluids in your tubes.....
