IVF/Weight

June 04, 2008

Just wondering what it the recommanded weight range for any of the ivf type procedures. Im 25yrs old 189cm tall and weigh 130kg (very overweight :O( ) I have PCOS and ENDO plus my feience has a sperm problem. We are in the process of getting his sperm issues looked at and I am already currently seeing a gyno. But we have been told that we may need to go down the ivf path. I was just trying to get an idea of how much weight I should be trying to lose. Iv set myself a long term goal of 40kg but will this be enough. Short term I am aiming for losing around 10kg every 4-6wks....

Yes weight has a very important factor with getting pregnancy via any method. Plus there are risk factors that over weight women could face during her pregnancy that could place her and the baby's lives in danger.

Flutter pls view this site to determine your BMI and it will help you to determine your BMI. http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/body_weight/healthy_weight/bmi_calculator.htm

Wishing you luck babe and you can do it. I'm losing the weight also but not because of pregnancy I want to be a skinny short woman again...lol love you dear!!!!

Just checked my BMI it is 36.4 OMG Im so fat!

So if you have to have a BMI of 30 then I need to lose 40kg. But I can do that if I sit to my goal of 10kg every 4-6wks I should have the weight of by the end of yr or early next yr. I CAN do this :O)

Hi flutter for healthy weight lost I would say losing 10kg or 22.1 pounds is too much all at once even if 4 to 6wks. You are wanting to lose 3.3 lbs each week in 6wks...if you do it in 4 wks that is over 5 pounds per wk. Not good dear. For healthy weight lose the average is 1 to 1 1/2 pound per week. Pace yourself because if you lose the weight your body cannot handle that amount of weight lose all at once. It takes time dear and you can set yourself for failure and do more damage to your body. Take your time with it.

I was just going on the info my gym gave me on how much weight I could lose in that period. My dietion also said it, she was the one who suggested that amount each 4-6wks. I'll re-ask them tho...Thanx for letting me know

A BMI of under 30 would be great to substantially increase one's chances of success with IVF...

I think that for people who are larger, they tend to drop more weight faster then those only needing to lose like 20lbs or so. My dh can lose 10lbs in a week if he watches what he eats and that is without exercising. I could only lose like 3 pounds in a week doing the same thing.

I'm so proud of you Julie, take charge of your health and you'll feel so much better and increase your chances of getting preggers :)))))

I started walking and feel good about myself that I got my fat butt off the couch. LOL
