IVF Journey
August 30, 2008
Caryn's post inspired me to share my experience as well. GOOO Caryn, I'm super excited for you!!!
Our cycle/ protocol is a little different. So far things seem to be going well. It's hard to keep waiting and not know the exact date of when everything will happen but we all know that is how these things work :O)
7/27 Began taking BCP (1 pack)
8/10 Begin 10U of Lupron each night
8/16 Take last BCP continue 10U of Lupron
8/18 CD1 AF
8/21 E2 (Estrogen blood test), U/S and meet with IVF nurse. 1 ovarian cyst found will be ok to begin meds if E2 is low.
E2 44: OK to begin meds. :O)
Lower lupron from 10U to 5U and begin 150 of Menopur and 150 of Follistim each night. I mix the Follistim and Menopur so I only have to give 2 injections each night. Lupron doesn't hurt at all, Menopur/Follistim burns as it goes in. Some bruising occurs but isn't too bad.
8/24 Return for E2 and U/S
Results: E2=98 11 small follies :O)
Continue same meds
8/27 Return for E2 and U/S
Results: E2=577
Follies begin to grow, largest at 12mm
Continue same meds
8/28 Return for E2 and U/S
Results: E2=953
Change in Meds: cut Follistim 1/2 to 75U but continue 5 Lupron and 150 Menopur
largest follicle is 15 and there are 3 14s others are smaller around 12s and 10s
TODAY-8/30
Pre-opt visit with nurse, E2 & U/S
Review retrieval and transfer procedure and future meds. About 17 Follies, largest is now only 16 and E2 is very high: 2193 so Follistim is cut out completely and Lupron and Menopur are continued.
I will return tomorrow for E2 and U/S. Retrieval will be soon :O) probably trigger in a day or two with Novarel.
***********BABY DUST to us ALL*************
Update:
U/S and E2 today. Dr. office called, time to do the HCG/Novarel at 10:30PM tonight and the retrieval will be Tuesday morning at 9:30AM. U/S showed several follies at 19 and others a little smaller. I totally forgot to ask what the E2 was, guess I can ask tomorrow when I go back for another E2, no U/S needed. We need to be in the office at 8am for prep and "sperm" on morning of retrieval. I take Levaquin with a sip of water before heading out Tues. morning and then start other antibiotics when I get home.
****WISH US LUCK****
:O)
So we had 16 eggs taken out at the retrieval and we got the call today.... 9 of them fertilized the conventional way!!! We didn't need to use ICIS (poke the egg to let in the sperm). So for now we have a scheduled apt for Friday at 8:15 for a day 3 transfer but will get another call tomorrow confirming the Friday transfer or extending it to a day 5 transfer for Sunday. They said most patients get a day 3 transfer so that's what we are expecting :O) Seems like we will have a couple to put in and then be able to freeze the rest. I will keep you posted :O)
