Is Metformin necessary to get pregnant?
I was put on Metformin for insulin resistance, but I am not one for unnecessary meds. I continue to read post after post that Metformin is not going to help me get pregnant, so I am wondering do I even need it? Is it actually fixing a problem that needs to be fixed? Also, if it is not going to help get pregnant, why does my doctor insist I use it for two months to see if I begin ovulating again before using other meds? Why not just go ahead and give me the meds I need to help? Thanks for any helpful information!

My doctor told me that in general women with
PCOS should take Metformin and can take it though menopause if they want. It will help to regulate insulin, which hormones might normally regulate, but because PCOS messes with your hormones, the Metformin will help out. I went off it for a while, but I went back on about 2 years ago when we weren't even doing an IVF cycle because it helps regulate my insatiable desire for carbs and helps me regulate my weights/metobolism. I don't know that this is something that can be medically proven, but it works for me!
