Is it ok to take laxatives while TTC?

OK, ladies, I need some help please...

Now, here's my problem (and sorry if TMI), but all these meds are really messing me up. So terribly constipated, ughh!!! The Dr's had told me before that I could take a stool softner w/my prenatals due to all the iron so I took one pill each day over the weekend & on Monday & I had the most HORRIBLE, AWFUL, words cannot express spasms on Tuesday! Scared me cause I have always been told you are not supposed to take a laxative while TTC for that very reason. So anyway, I came on the site & looked around on the net & found where you can take a dose of milk of magn (ugghhh, right? gross). So I did that the next morning, Wednesday, & no more spasms & some relief from that. The nurse this morning told me to switch from the stool softner to Miralax (I think) and to take a capful every day till things get more "regular" so to speak. Can that be right ladies?!?!? I thought no laxatives?!?!?! Anyone else had this problem while TTC & what did the Dr's tell you to do please? The last few days have NOT been fun and I'm so nervous that I messed up my chances for a BFP this cycle as I am halfway thru my TTW as of tomorrow :((((

I used to have a big problem in this department. TMI alert--major pains in my sides hemorrhoids etc... The ovidrel shot makes it horrible for me..I almost shut down to the point of feeling full and sick after I ate. I had to make some major diet changes...I have to be very careful about what I eat.....not too much of the following:banana, bagels, cheese., fried food. I eat lots of veggies, salad, prunes, pineapple, apples, The dried apple chips work great. Lots of water. I eat lots of regular yogurt. They have these Fiber one bars at the grocery store that work really well... There is a fiber cereal from Kashi that is almost 50% fiber. I also take Benefiber fiber supplement in a glass of water each day. I make sure that I go every day......If not the next day will be awful....

If I get into trouble I use the milk of magnesia pills. I cut them in half. They are very gentle. I only need to take this once in a while. Magnesium works better than the average stool softer check the ingredients. Colace does nothing for me. Hope this helps. =)

There is a product called Slippery Elm Powder. Basically it creates a musulage and clears out your symptom. I have been told by the supplement company that it is okay to take while pregnant and TTC, but talk it over with your doctor

Thanks ladies:) I used to eat the fiber one bars & they are great but I stopped eating them cause I am trying not to gain any weight & it was just extra calories every day.

This month is only the 2nd time with the trigger shot & I was NOT prepared for this.

Simone, I will compare the active ingred. in the benefiber to what the nurse told me to try as they sound very similar. Guess it just freaked me out a little cause it has the word laxative in the name, lol! Also, thanks! I did not know there was a pill form of milk of mag- I hate taking the liquid. When I took it yesterday I only took a half dose as well :)

Thanks so much!

Drinking pear juice is a way to clear out your system naturally.

Treans-is pear juice clear? The reason I ask is becuase of my kidneys I cannot drink colored liquids, only water. So most of the juice avenues are out for me which is why I was looking for something else. I was thinking about trying white grapejuice?

That is actually what they recommended you drink in hospital as after I had bub they want you to have a bowel movement and they want it to be soft (so you don't need to strain), also there is a sachet you can buy from the chemist (they gave that to me too in hospital) that you mix with water, doesn't taste really good but it doesn't make you have the runs or anything just stops your poo from being hard! :) I think it was called Avcol or something like that.... But you would need to check if it is safe to take during pregnancy, but it was ok to take it with breastfeeding so I think it would be ok.

Thanks, guess I'll stick with the white grapejuice. I love cranberry juice & cran grape but both of those are out due to the red & purple dyes they put in them...
