Is DHEA the same as DHA

March 15, 2008

Okay Dr. Q. I am in my 2 week wait so I have been taking prenatals and folic acid and I purchased expecta lipil (DHA) is suppose to be good to take while pregnant as well (hopefully I am). So here is my question I do suffer from elevated testosterone and I remembered something about DHEA and testosterone so I did a search and I found this:

DHEA is converted in the body to androgens (such as testosterone) and estrogens, thus influencing practically every organ and tissue in the body, including the brain.

Well are DHEA and DHA the same will it increase my tesosterone? I don't want that to happen. Please let me know if so I won't be taking it again.

Hey Tammie,

DHA and DHEAS are two different things.

DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid), an omega-3 essential fatty acid. is omega 3 fatty acid which is essential for Brain and Eye development (for fetus) so thats why u take it if ur preggo.

DHEA(S) Dehydroepiandrosterone is a harmone as u rightly mentioned and can be a marker for PCOS.

I dont think there is any connection between the two.
