Hypothyroidism

October 12, 2007

I am 19 years old and i have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism for about 5 years. I can never remember to take my medicine and i was just curious if it could affect the baby if i was to get pregnant?

Hi Lovergirl,

Yes, docs would like you to be well controlled for your hypothyroid prior to you getting pregnant not only for your fetus, but for your overall health during pregnancy so that there is a smaller risk of pregnancy complications.

Associate with taking your medicines say with brushing your teeth, (think of these two going together) and that'll help a lot. Good luck with compliance, hope others can give you tips, and keep us posted...

Lovergirl,

Keep your meds out where you can see them. That should help you to remember to take them. Also, plan to take them at the same time every day. As Dr. Q said, associate it with brushing your teeth. Brush your teeth and then take your meds. Good luck!
