Hypo-Thyroid and Ovulation

June 17, 2008

I have hypo-thyroidism. In January, my thyroid level was 9, in March it was 7, now its 4.2, so it's getting better. I've had 2 periods since Januray. The first cycle was 56 days long with a short, light period, the second was 57 days long with a normal period. I have 2 questions, 1) I don't think I was ovulating with those long cycles, but still got a period, is this normal?

2) Shouldn't I be ovulating again since my levels are getting lower? and if I'm not, could this be indicitive of another problem?

By the way, I've been charting my basal temps and Cervical Mucous since January, they don't seem to show that I'm ovulating, no temp rises.

There may be something else going on now besides the hypothyroidism not allowing you to ovulate...maybe a combination of PCOS or other prob that your doc should look into...

If you're having a true period, then you did ovulate 14 days prior...

How do I know if it was a "true" period? I read that can just be the build up shedding.
