husband type 1 diabetic

my husband is type 1 diabetic we haven't gone to our RE appt yet but what are the chances of his sperm being affected by his diabetes?
No problem :) Is he on an insulin pump or on injections? I ask because my son gained even better control when he went on the pump and he just loves it. My brother watched how much my son enjoyed his pump and the freedom of eating when he wants and how much he wants or skipping a meal even...and so he went on the pump last year.
Okay, yes I remember that regimen Smacksies, my son was on that before the pump. Have you ever heard of the lazy mans pump?? It's injections but instead of using NPH, you use Lantus and you inject that once a day, usually around dinner time. You still use the regular insulin, in your case the Novo Rapid and inject that every time you eat. The Lantus is a long acting insulin that gives a flat line of insulin constant for 24 hours and as you know, the Novo Rapid, peaks in 2hrs and is gone by 4hrs. So he would be able to eat when and what he wants..all he'd need to do is count carbs in the foods and have his doc help him with an insulin/carb ratio :) Also, the Lantus is given as a seperate shot, it cannot be mixed with other insulins like the NPH can. Just another option for ya. Yes, the pumps are very expensive...we own 3 of them and have very good insurance, thank God! I have offered to donate a spare pump to others in need but the rest of the pump supplies are also very expensive. I do have an abundance of lancets if you ever need any. My son uses the BD Ultrafine II lancets and he loves them, he doesn't feel it at all :) My husbands step mother also has type 1 and no insurance so I give her glucagon whenever I can and also needles and lancets when I can. Every little bit helps :)
Chick, I remember you and I talking before about your bf, how is he doing?

oh the continuous glucose monitor???? So awesome, that's gonna help him so much! So funny, cause my son is getting one too and we are starting a trial on that on Monday! I wish your bf much luck with it! We are getting the Dexcom one by the Animas Company because in another year it will be able to communicate with his insulin pump. I am so excited for this continuous glucose monitor cause he'll only have to test on his fingers two times a day and now he tests 12 times a day, also my son doesn't feel when he's low, he has hypoglycemia unawareness and so the monitor will alert him when he's having a low or high blood sugar. I can't wait! Hey...let me know when your bf starts on the monitor, I wanna see how he likes it!
Yes we checked out Lantus but the endocrenologist thought my hubby was managing good on the 2 he had. It is a major lifestyle adjustment for me...but it has given me a better diet and exercise out of the deal. I am hypoglycemic and allergic to asparatame which as you probally now is in alot of sugar free products so don't we make a great pair!! Opposites really do attract. I am glad to know his diabetes will probally not be a factor. We just need all the things we can get to be on our side for fertility issues!
I am 26 going to be 27 in December. I have had blood tests done. I have low progesterone and slightly high testosterone but not to much over the normal limits. I have been on provera before to induce a period but I had some bad side effects. I am now 127 days since my last period...going to RE on Sept 18th for the 1st time with my hubby. I have been to a gyno who didn't believe I reacted to provera even though the emergancy room reports showed otherwise. So now I am taking it to the next level.

If he has good control over his diabetes and blood sugars I'd say no affect at all. My father, my brother and my son all have type 1 diabetes and my brother has fathered two children no problem and my father had three children. And...my father has terrible control and also is an alcoholic. Good luck!
