How to get progesterone suppositories/creams?

Hi doc!

I have been doing some research about chemical pregnancies, and how to prevent it. I just found out that unfortunately, a lot of women suffer this and that 50% to 60% of women suffer this without them knowing it, and that the possible causes are inadequate uterine lining, uterine abnormalities both congenital or acquired like fibroids, low hormone levels, luteal phase defect or certain infections. It also said that potential treatments can be Vitamin B6, progesterone cream and baby aspirin. Are all these information correct? Is it true that a chemical pregnancy is the clinical term used for a very early miscarriage? If that indeed was my case last cycle, what are ways to prevent it from happening again? Have an ultrasound to see if my lining is adequate for implantation? Are progesterone suppositories or creams only available by prescription? Thanks again, doc! :-)

    progesterone, creams, chemical, and pregnancy

Correct, Chemical pregnancy is exactly that term...early miscarriage. Most of the time, these miscarriages are due to chromosomal abnormalities of the embryo...however, I agree that doesn't mean we shouldn't necessarily try to prevent these (even if it may not truly help)

For which, I'm totally Ok with Progesterone supplementation (has to be micronized, from a specialty pharmacy by Rx and taken vaginally or intramuscularly). Ultrasound may detect thin linings for which supplementation can be given, especially if Clomid is being taken (known for causing this sometimes). You can ask an RE to do and interpret, but this can be difficult to ask someone who is unfamiliar with this.

Thank you again for the quick response. Can low progesterone be determined by just looking at the BBT chart? This was my chart for the last cycle.

As you can see, my temps have really not gone higher than 98.4. Does that indicate a low progesterone? Can progesterone supplements help thicken my lining in case Clomid is indeed affecting it? Thank you again! :-)

By the way, I thought hCG is ONLY produced when the embryo implants in the lining. In the case of a chemical pregnancy, misscarriage happens even before the embryo implants. Then how can HPTs detect hCG to turn it positive, even if the embryo has not implanted yet?

Hi Lexie,

The embryo had already implanted giving the hCG value (implantation starts occuring about 6dpo and first detectable blood levels can be seen as early as 10 dpo). hCG is a hormone only produced by a pregnancy (unlike Progesterone that is also made after ovulation and during pregnancy).

98.4 is an indication of ovulation and adequate temp, however, the only way to diagnose low progesterone would be through a blood draw. In order to increase your lining, Estrogen supplementation in the early part of the cycle would be necessary (lots of meds I know), and/or using something other than clomid. The progesterone can be used after ovulation.

Thank you, doc. :-) Starting Monday, I will start to make an appointment with a new doctor, hopefully this new doctor will listen to EVERYTHING that I have to say. haha! When is the best time to check my lining by ultrasound? I'm only on CD 2. And when is the best time to have estrogen supplements? Oh well, I'm not sure if I will need all those yet, but the first thing to do is to check if my lining is affected by Clomid. The Estrogen supplement will also help my cervical mucus, right? Since it will be my first time to visit the new doctor, I might give me an appointment 3 or 4 weeks from now. Oh well... :-) If we are not successful again this month.

The best time to make an assessment as to the lining would be around CD 10...Estrogen patches may-maynot work with Clomid as clomid is a selective estrogen blocker...adding more may not help. Changing medications, to letrozole, for example or using injectable gonadotropins should help for all of these issues, if it{s even an issue in the first place. Hopefully, you{ll be successful this month, and like always lexie, keep us posted and...
