How good is sperm sorting as far as gender selection?

Hoping Dr Q can give me a good answer about this or anyone who has experience with this is welcome.

90% accurate if you want a girl, 75% accurate if you want a boy. Since you want a boy, you will have a 75% chance of getting a boy this way, 25% of having a girl, instead of a 50/50 chance.

I think it's the same price as artificial insemination, which is around $2,500.

My friend was looking into this, so that's where I got the info. The info is 2 yrs old, so it may be different now. She was told by her Dr that the "female" sperm are heavier than the "male" sperm, so it's easier to sort them. They use a cylindrical container and spin it. The centripetal force pulls the heavier "female" sperm to the edges. Female sperm are heavier because they have an X chromosomes and the X chromosome is much bigger than the Y.

Oh ok thanks Jamie, the info is still very helpful! I already have a RE clinic in mind for this if going the IUI route that offers sperm sorting. So far I'm just waiting to see my OB since she may be able to get my HSG cover my insurance if it's through her office Im hoping. If not then I have to wait to do HSG in Jan because I want to not be spending $700 in Dec when I have X-mas that month & have lots of family to shop for! Did your friend get the gender she wanted through this btw? :)

I totally understand the $ situation!

She didn't end up doing it for $ reasons. She has a tilted uterus and she tried for 18 months to get pregnant with no luck. Then she stopped trying, even went on birth control pills because of $ issues they decided the timing wasn't right anymore for a baby. But I'm sure you can guess what happened next....she got pregnant on bcps!!! Just 3 months into taking them. So crazy huh?

She had a boy, and she wanted a girl so bad. But she is super happy to have a healthy baby after trying for so long.

But it give me hope...I hope her story does for you too :)

She wants another but "only if I get a girl"...so she might try the sorting if she has the $.
