How can I reduce the chance of twins?

I'm about to begin a round of clomid with trigger shot and IUI (this is how I got pregnant last time). I have a new doctor this time who is not very helpful and I was hoping you could tell me how I could lower my chance of conceiving twins. Does it matter how much clomid I'm on? 50mg vs 100mg for example? What about the timing of taking it? I heard that if you start closer to first day of your cycle your chances are higher. Is this true? Any of advice? Thank you!

Theresa.. Clomid only gives u a 5-10% of having twins so its really not that a high of a chance.

Taking it a night or day is not going to make any difference.

The IUI needs to be timed right for when u trigger and ovulate so u can get pregnant.

Good luck and I hope everything works out!

Theresa- its hard to really say because its not like IVF where you can choose the number of eggs! A lower dose is probably better. Also, taking is days 5-9 develops less eggs (or at least that's the rumor! ha!). Remember though, there is always an increased chance for multiples on clomid! I have heard that Femara has lower chances???

My doc says that Femara is a weaker drug that Clomid, so it may not work for everyone. AND it's not FDA approved for infertility, so you have to sign a bunch of waivers just to take the drug.

Theresa, the higher dose will likely produce more follicles (maturing eggs) and increase your chances for multiples. For instance, at 50mg Clomid (regardless of what days it was taken), I had only 1 follicle. This month, I was upped to 100mg and I have 3 follicles.

If your doc is going to be doing follicle studies, then you should know if you have more than one follicle. If you do, you could choose to not go thru with TTC that cycle.

There are no documented studies about clomid days 3-7 vs 5-9 causing more follicles, only speculation and "experience".

There is a gal on here who do Clomid 5-9, had 4 follicles and is now prego with twins. It was her 3rd IUI cycle.

Thanks so much for your responses! I remember that last time I was on 100mg for 5 days and developed around 10 follicles, maybe more. I remember the doctor was very surprised by the number. I feel like I should only take 50mg this time because now that I've done a little research I realize that was a lot of follicles. Thanks again for your help!
