Here's one for you...

Someone on another board scared me into considering that I might have "blocked tubes," presumably fallopian tubes. How does one know if this is the case?? Are certain people at risk?

Need some reassurance, please!

i was then looking at how do you know if you have blocked tubes help

Hey Christine and Donna, from the posts i read on this forum, the chances of having a blocked tube increases due to some stds (not all) or if you have had some surgery done in around that area which may cause scar tissue. A simple HSG test where a dye is passed thru the tubes can tell you if it is blocked or not. If one is having trouble getting pregnent and all blood work and U/S is normal then the dr will probably do this test to see if the tubes are blocked. If the tube is blocked, then pregnency can be achieved by IVF.

Christine, please do not worry about the posts on the internet. SOme of them are indeed scary and worst case scenarios that are posted by people who do not know your medical history. That way this site is really good as all the women here share their experiences, but in a very reassuring way. Most of the problems while TTC is treatable these days by REs and Drs. So, Keep up your spirit and dont lose hope.

Donna, Dr Q is the best person to answer this question, but from what I read on this site, no it doesnt get blocked all by itself.

Donna, been there done that. At one point, I thought, I had all the fertility problems that a woman can possibly have including blocked tubes. THats why I stopped browsing the internet for answers and just stuck to 1 site.

Gosh, thanks everyone. I've never had an STD, nor any gyn problems, surgery, or other health ailment. Does this mean I shouldn't worry?

October 15, 2007

christine hope you dont mind me asking but what made them say they thought you could have it

October 15, 2007

Who knows? I'm assuming it's only because I mentioned that I've been timing things right and still haven't gotten pregnant. This is my 4th month ttc, which doesn't seem too crazy. What do you think?

October 15, 2007

Hi Christine, SInce its just recently that u are TTC, give it another 2 more months (if over 30-35) and talk to your Dr. The doctor would start doing the blood work, U/S and everything is normal, would most likely do the HSG test to rule out blocked tubes. This is a standard process nothing to be worried about. Anyone going to a Dr for fertility treatment will get this all done at some point or another. Its just the normal way things are done.

But do you think I'm at risk??

October 15, 2007

try it being 11 yrs then u worry

October 15, 2007

The risk of having tubes blocked is low, and factors that can cause this would include endometriosis, previous surgeries, appendicities...but chances are with a previous child is that they're still open...hang in there guys, an HSG will definately determine this and keep us posted...
