Jan, a lot more women are waiting later and later to start a family due to careers etc. Now, more often than not, we see women having more difficulty conceiving. And yes, it can just happen. As a matter of fact, I am one of the women who has had children before and all of the sudden, I couldn't get pregnant. Seems as though infertility among both men and women continues to rise. But as far as your husband is concerned, there are most likely notable reasons he does not want to begin. The economy being one of them. Try to talk to him and see if you can come to an agreement. For now, I would just eat healthy and exercise. I am 28 and have difficulty. So, it just depends on the couple. If you haven't reached 30 yet, I would definitely see if that could be the point where you would aggressively start. Good Luck and I hope that he begins to see things your way.

I am 27 and my husband is 30. No reason not to begin a family other than I think he over thinks everything. He has a great job andwe're not in debt. Why are you having difficulty conceiving? Also why is infertility on the rise?

I think about 85% of couples conceive after one year and 93% after two. The figures could be misconstrued because after your reach age 35 it is recommended that you seek treatment after 6 months instead of 12. Be that as it may, 15% is quite a huge number if you look at the total population. I think that you still have a few good years if he doesn't decide to change is mind quickly. However, I would not wait until your mid-thirties. Definitely not saying that it couldn't happen, I would just hate to wait that long to figure out you have a problem. My personal problem was that I was ovulating as was seen in OPK's, however, my follicles were not mature. So, I would ovulate every month but they were not big enough for them to be fertilized. They ranged from around .08-1.4. Too small for anything to happen. I was given follicle stimulation hormone, Gonal F, and was able to produce four mature follicles which did the trick.

What caused your follicles to be immature?

I am not sure. Like I said, I had three children, no problem. After the third, I just couldn't get pregnant. Tried for (3) years. Went to the doctor, tried clomid for 5 months. Went to an RE who hypothesized that this was my problem and whalah, first month pregnant with twins. I don't know why this happens, just one of those things I guess. Good news is that most things can be corrected once you do the work-ups and find out the problems. Jan, I think you are getting ahead of yourself. Once your husband decides to try, you have to give it at least a year before you suspect a problem. So since you haven't tried, you don't know you have a problem. It is more likely than not that you will be pregnant within the first year. So, good luck and let us know when you finally decide to start your TTC journey.
