HELP 0% Active Motility

May 29, 2008

We have just gotten back from seeing our gp and getting my boyfriends SEMEN ANALYIS following are his results:

Ref Range

Volume 1.0 ml (2-6)

Sperm count 30 x10^6ml (20-250)

Normal forms 17% (>15%)

Active motility 0%} ACtive motility

>=25%

Sluggish 20%} or

Non Motile 80%} Active+sluggish

> = 50%

The gp said the only way is IVF.

What could of caused this?

Is there anything that can be done to help the active motility rate?

We so need any advice anyone can give coz we so can NOT afford IVF

I also have pcos and endo and do not ovulate on my own. Only with the help of clomid.

If IVF is the only way then our dream of having a child is over. :'O(

Please Please Please HELP us....

Flutter, I'm so sorry for what is going on and sending you big big (((hugs)))). However I do recommend for you and the dh to seek help and advice from a Male Fertility Specialist. A true SA results he will need to get another SA done in 2 1/2 mths. Also get his hormone levels checked with this specialist and/or Endocrinologist. Just know that all cases are not textbook to say but right now for the both of you seeking the help and the information from a Male specialist and a Endocrinologist (hormone specialist) is the best you can do at this time.

Special Note: Getting his hormone levels check could help because if his FSH levels are low clomid and hcg could help him. Plus testorne levels could and does effect sperm production also. If the FSH levels are high that could be future risk of testicle failure and he needs to find out why that is happening. Plus Accuputure does help Male Infertility. However right now you and him need to seek help from a Male Infertility specialist and Endocrinologist and not a GP.

Keep us posted!!! Sending you prayers

May 30, 2008

Good question they just thru that one at us. They said he will need to be checked for testi cancer coz of the 0%active and 80%non motile. I have no idea on what any of this stuff means arrrgh.

They said to be checked just to be sure....

Interesting...did Shane or you ask why?????

May 30, 2008

Shane went quiet from shock and I started asking a 100 questions but all the gp said was to make the appt with the ivf clinic and they would be able to explain more.....I kept insisting for answers too but eventually the news statred to hit me and we had to go. Luck for us Im close to the receptionist and shes been thru this journey too so when she saw us crying she took us into a room and sat with us....

May 30, 2008

Awww poor dear well that dr is a gp and not a specialist. All I can say that I have given you the advise from what we have learned and been thru this past year and half but it is up to you and Shane to follow in what you and him want to do. Wishing you the best of luck!!!

May 30, 2008

May 30, 2008

you're welcome love!!!! go to another gp and get a referral from a new gp!!!!!

Would the fact that he had a cold and hadnt been getting proper sleep contributed to his 0% active motility???????/

May 30, 2008

hi flutter, I would say nope to this idea. This all has to deal with is hormones and his prituary gland in his brain. Just like woman it is all control by his hormones. It is not as simple as that the male fertility and femal fertility is not a simple process. Having 0% motility tells me (Now I'm not a dr) that something is going on with his hormones and that must be checked out via blood test and seeing specialist that have a better understanding in this matter.

Flutter- I am soory that the SA did not yield good results.. we had a similar situation- but just a dramatic drop...

Is there sperm present, they are just not moving?

If that is the case, from my experience, they will want to test for testicular cancer- we had to as well..it just a scrotal ultra sound to look for masses...there are a feew reasons why the sperm sre there and not moving..try not to get all worried just yet..I got worried for nothing..so it could just be nothing

Also how old is Shane?

You should seek help from a Urologist who speciales in Male Infertility... he def will make you repeat the SA.. We did it 3 times to get a complete picture.. My DH'd counts started coming back up..so we had improvements.. I hope you will too

Has Shane ever had the SA done before??

A common cold would not make the numbers drop- I asked the same thing..the Doctor told us it would have been worse than the common cold.

*Male and Female fertility is not a simple process. Female is lil more simple than male that is what I have learn.

May 30, 2008

Thanx again angel...have 100 things going thru mind atm and I figure its beta to ask the question then sit and wonder... Your a true treasure.....

Maybe we should buy an alarm clock to wake the 20% sluggish ones up more lol....

Will be definatly getting that referral tho tomorro even if it kills me...

May 30, 2008

Flutter I found this post from another user with DR 's Respnse so do not loose hope..

My husbands sperm count is normal their all alive, but there's just no motility. Is there a cure for this. Does any one else have the same problem. Did u concieve or how long was it b4 u concieved. We're going to a male infertility specialist in march but, was wondering if we still had a chance or not, even with the infertility doctors help!

Dr. Q:

February 08, 2008

Hi

So long as the sperm are alive, you have a real ggod chance, but most likely it'll only be with IVF+ICSI...However, you do need a second sample drawn at least 2 1/2 months apart to confirm that this is the case...

You can consider using male fertility supplements also...

Good luck, and keep us posted..

*****babydust******

So maybe you can talk to the doctor about your options...

May 30, 2008

Awww dear I understand but with what we had to deal with and with us asking questions via other sites and ppl I know. I don't believe he has cancer he would know trust me. The best thing to do is get to a specialist but that is a decision you and him will have to discuss. Now like I said before no case is textbook every person is different and knowing his case with our talks before he needs to see a specialist. GP's don't have the expert knowledge like a specialist. They just have a general idea. So next step for you and him is to find a good specialist and a hormone specialist also. Don't give up it's just a bump in the road. Good time to focus on other stuff.

May 30, 2008

Caryn ~ yeah there are sperms there but non are active 20% are sluggish and 80% are non motile. Shane is 34 turning 35 and this was his first sa...We are going to see a gp tomorrow and demand a referral to specialist. We want to know whats going on and why.

The only thing the doc did say that I forgot to mention b4 was that the fact he had hypersidea (spelt wrong) as a baby MAY have something to do with it...but this doc didnt know much. Ive always disliked him...

May 30, 2008

Thanx angel...looks like its the perfect time to be saying offically we are on a break until him and I have both got our fertility stuff soughted.

I saw that post Caryn I think I actually commented on it hehe but thanx its really appricated

May 30, 2008

Julie, you got some great advice from the girls on this post! I agree 100% and would follow up with another SA in a few months and also would follow up with a male fertility specialist. It's not over yet, it's a bump in the road and you'll make it over the bump and on to smooth roads again. ((((((big hugs)))))) and ((((((big hugs for Shane))))))

May 30, 2008

Sarah ~ we are going to get a referral tomorrow to a specialist if there is a doc open that will give us one. We are also hoping to retest in a few months.

Sailor ~ we did the sample at home and had it to the lab within 20mins of taking it...

May 30, 2008

My hubby sat in the parking lot and got his sample in the car and then ran it in. lol

May 30, 2008

Did he make sure he kept the sample close to his body to keep it really warm? That is really important too :)

May 30, 2008

He drove while I nursed it in my lap lol We joked how I was nursing our soon to be baby.....
