Hi will hcg shots mess up your bodies natural ability to ovulated? I went to my RE and had to speak with a nurse(doc out of town) she suggested the shot so we know when to have intercourse( i ovulate fine i just mc) then they can monitor my hormone levels, he thinks i mc b/c of low progeterone. Could we not do the same when i get preg. w/o shot? Doc gone until next friday and i have an ultrasound to measure follicle size they were going to give shot then(day10). what are risk to shot? dont want 5 or 6 babies? sorry so long winded!!!!!!!!!!!

HCG shots helps to have a decent luteal phase. Thats why they give the shot. Infact HCG is the harmone that is produced during pregnancy and promotes progesterone secretion. Ur Dr is probably doing this since u m/c earlier because of low progesterone.

I am not really sure abt the risks or how many eggs will ovulate though.

i took the shot and asked the same question but with injectables they want you to take the trigger shot since they are monitoring you so closely. With clomid you dont have to take the shot. My RE likes to use the shot cuz since your body is being manipulated to make more follicles it may be all messed up and confused and not ovulate on time.

They give you the shot when your follies are at the best possible time and maturity. Sometimes you body will ovulate an under or over mature follie so this helps a bit with that too.

There arent any more risks of having multiples if you take the shot or just wait to ovulate on your own, either way you have the same amount. :)

Your RE wont let you have that many follie that are able to be fertilized so no worries but you can talk to them about that.

as a side note here, I HATE that shot! It makes me have the runs and i feel preggo for days til it leaves my body. Others dont have the hatered i do for the shot but everyone is different.

Your RE will then give you progesteone for you to start taking 3 days after you ovulate which will be 36 hours after you take the trigger shot.
