Have PCOS, had miscarriage 3 mo ago at 11 wks pg, hemorrhagic ovary

Dr Q,

I had a miscarriage 3 months ago with my first pregnancy. I'm 34, have PCOS and take glugophage(metformin)for the PCOS. I saw an RE years ago. He was an angel...Dr Marek Piekos in Joliet IL he removed a fibroid from my uterus, did an HSG and saw I did have one falopian tube that was not patent and fixed it up by shooting dye into it, and he advised I take the glucophage during pregnancy until the 3rd month-until the placenta can take over the hormonal producing aspect. I moved to India so I no longer see him.

Early on in the pregnancy, I was diagnosed with having my right ovary hemorrhaging. Nothing was done about this. I'm and RN, and it doesn't make sense to me at all. This was dx via ultrasound-color doppler. during the pregnancy, for 2 months I had abdominal pains, cramping just on the left side, but non utero pain. I was checked and checked to rule out an ectopic and everything seemed fine. Every single day I had terrible lower back pains, and left sided ovarian type pains. At the 11th week, they dx the miscarriage. There was never a heartbeat, nor fetal pole. I had a molar pregnancy-looked like a cluster of grapes eventually.

During the pregnancy I was NOT taking glucophage-I forgot what Dr Piekos said (pregnancy forgetfulness) and the idiot Dr I had here did not tell me as well. I now have a wonderful new Dr that I found.

What is the treatment for a hemorrhaging ovary and does it resolve on its' own? I would say surgery to resolve this? I had an idiot for an OB at the time. I should have known that no heartbeat even by 11 weeks is not a viable pregnancy. When you're pregnant, all your common sense goes out the window. Also the Dr I had during the pregnancy had me taking 5 mg of folic acid! I had my own prenatals from the states to take, but also why do they give 5 mg which is like 20 times more than 400mcg?? Doesn't that harm the baby?

We've been trying again, and it's so hard to see people with their kids, evenn families together. At times I feel deep down that that will never be us. My youngest sister and I both found out we were both pregnant within days of eachother, and she's due in about 6 weeks. Even though we live thousands of miles away from eachother, it still makes it even harder on me.

Please advise. Also, this is a spectacular site...

Hi Silvia,

Thank you for the compliment and hope you can also let others know about this site so that everyone can learn from each other's experiences...

There really isn't a treatment for hemorrhagic corpus luteal cysts...they cause a tremendous amount of pain, sometimes hospitalization is needed for pain control, can be confused with ectopics and sometimes people are taken to the operating room thinking it was an ectopic...

If you truly had a molar pregnancy, you need to be followed very, very closely with hCG levels that should go down to zero and remain there for about 6 months before ttc for your safety and protection as these can be very dangerous...

It's ok to take that much folic acid, no harm, usually the dose given to people with a history of a child with neural tube defects (4mg/day), but no harm done...

We hope our community can truly provide you support during this journey, and encourage you to interact with others undergoing the same trials...although it is difficult for you to Chat Live with others since you're in India and time zone differences, there are some users from there whom you can communicate with directly...

We wish you the best of luck Silvia, and keep us posted...

Thank you so much, and yes I forgot to mention about HCG it is down to zero. Do you still have to wait the 6 months even if it is at a zero? It was zero in August. Thanks!!

please consult with your doc, but yes if a molar pregnancy, it should be down to zero for a while under your docs discretion
