A few weeks later when my HCG levels finally dropped back to negative I started hemorraging and was in a lot of pain. I had developed an infection in my uterus and was put on BCP to stop the bleeding. I was also received news that my baby was completely healthy nothing wrong at all.
My Dr told me sometimes this happens and told me I was young that I could try again. So in July 2006 I had become pregnant for the 2nd time. On July 18th I had gotten a terrible headache. I could not hold my eyes open, the pain was excuriating, I was freezing and had a fever of 102. I called the on-call dr that night and was told to just take some tylenol as there was nothing they could do. July 19th I felt fine, then in the afternoon I started bleeding. I went to the ER I was told I should have come when I had the fever. They drew blood and did an ultrasound, my baby was gone. I had miscarried.
Again I was told I could try again. Noivember 2006 I discovered I was pregnant again. I called my sister to ask her opinion on whether I should tell DH yet, but I found out she was in the hospital having my nephew. I did not want to ruin her beautiful moment so I said nothing. DH came home and told him both of the good news. Then Nov 18th the day before Thanksgiving I started bleeding again. I knew it was over and did not bother to go to the hospital. I called my Dr and they had me go in for a blood test to confirm my HCG levels were dropping.
After this my OB/GYn told me there wasn't much she could do for me but would do some tests. She ran a huge panel of blood tests, told me nothing was wrong. I asked her about PCOS as I had just recently learned that my sister was diagnosed prior to having my nephew. She told me no that it is not possible since I have regular periods now and ovulate on my own. She then ran and HSG that hurt sooo bad I was in complete pain. She stated one of my tubes was blocked but it could be a spasm bc it hurt. She recommended I go see and RE and DH see a urologist.
A few months go by and I had scheduled my appointment with my RE for May 2005, A few days before my appointment I was pregnant again. Baby number 4. I called my OB/GYn since I was not due to see my RE yet. She told me to go have my blood drawn and just wait to see the RE. I went to see my RE and he was like "what you are pregnant?" he was confused about the care I was getting from my OB/GYn and reassured me that everything would be ok. He thinks we may be able to save this baby in time. He did an ultrasound and he said everything "looked beautiful" no heartbeat yet but I was just 6 weeks. He also confirmed I had PCOS. He showed me the tiny cysts cluttered in my ovaries. He stated all you have to have is 2 out of three of the signs, just bc I ovulate did not mean I didn't have PCOS. So he had my blood tested and sent me home. A few hours later I get a call from the Re my progesterone was 9.6 too low in his opinion so he sent me a script to get supplements. An hour goes by and my OB/GYN called same thing she finally tested my progesterone levels and noted they were low and she said she would send me a script. Her test was done 3 days earlier. I told her I was already on them. I went back a week later to my RE and he redid the ultrasound. No heartbeat. I was scheduled May 17 2005 for my 2nd D&E. After surgery he was by my side telling me everything would be ok. I would have a baby. A few weeks later pathology came back to report I had lost a healthy baby.
I was told now to not to get pregnant while he ran tests. He reran all the blood tests, my OB/GYN had run, plus chromosonal studies, an edometrial biopsy, and an HSG. Dh had a 2nd SA done as the results from his first came back great except 3% morphology. since I had been able to get pregnant, he was not concerned about DH morphology. He explained morphology is strictly the shape of the sperm and their ability to penetrate the egg. they can be shaped wrong and still do their job.
After reviewing my blood tests he was able to tell me I had one mutated MTHFR gene which would inhibit my ability to process folic acid, along with a long history of family blood clots. So I would need to take baby aspirin and tons of folic acid during the pregnancy. Now before he gave us the all clear he wanted to make certain that it was not DH sperm so he ordered an SCSA. This test was to show is DH sperm had high DNA fragmentation, which results in miscarriage. Some Dr's believe low morphology means high DNA fragmentation, the people at SCSA will tell you they have no positive information that this is true. A few weeks later his fragmentation was extremely lol. His swimmers are just shaped wrong.
So we were free to start trying again it wass now August 2007. I was take 1 baby aspirin, 4400mcgs of folic acid and 1 prenatal vitamin. I got pregnant in November 2007 I was scared to death. I had an internal ultrasound at 5weeks 6days, THERE WAS ALREADY A HEARTBEAT. My RE prescribed progesterone as a precaution even thought my levels were 12.8 he wanted to take no chances. Week after week heartbeat and the baby was BEAUTIFUL. I had a cervical bleed and had to stop taking the aspirin. By 12 weeks I stopped everything except the prenatal. On August 16th 2008 I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.
I am currently 24 weeks pregnant with baby girl number 2 after following the same protocol, also had some first trimester bleeding and placenta previa but all has cleared up and I looked forward to a due date of November 15th 2009!
