Dr Q, So..I have the result 1 hr Glucose Screening Test. The result was 99. Its unbelievable. One year ago I was insulin resistant..humm. anyways..But heres the catch..The nurse was smoking and so she didnt really draw my blood until 1 Hr 15 mins after the 50 mg Dextrose Drink. Do u think its ok? Or the value is most likely to be higher (or lower?) if it was taken exactly at 1 hr? Confooooosed.
Glucose Tolerence and Quad Screen on same day
December 04, 2007
Dr Q I have to get both these tests done in the 16th week and I scheduled it at the same time on 12/6. I have to have the 'Drink' at 10.45 AM. Quad screen blood drawn at 11.30 AM and then for diabetes at 11.45 AM. My question here would be :
1. Do I have to fast 8 hrs to get the blood drawn initially for Diabetes test then Drink and then retest in 1 hr? Or is it just the blood after the drink that counts? This is what Ive done before for GLucose tolerance Test. Is it different during pregnancy???
2. If I have that much glucose before drawing blood for Quad screen, will it affect the Quad screen results? Im more concerned here coz I dont want this to influence a false positive of any sort.
3. SHould I just do the Glucose test another day to avoid confusion?
Thanks a lot!

Secreating sugar in your urine during pregnancy is actually a very normal thing...
The kidneys tolerace to not allow sugar to pass is actually very low...so that once there's a little more sugar (due to pregnancy) and even though not close to having gestational diabetes, the little extra sugar will spill out (but normal so long as your GTT is Ok like yours)...

Dr Q, My Dr has warned me 2 days ago about the risk of developing gestational diabetes with my history of IR and told me to cut down all form of sugar or processed carbs. On Aug 30 (4 DPO) on my LM Cycle, my Insulin was 57. 2 days ago, again I tested +++++ for Glucose in Urine though 1 hr Gl.screen was 99.
My question is, as soon as I eat my morning cereal (Honey bunches of oats), my heart starts racing 96-108 BPM and then remains that way for some time. Same if I have high carb food for lunch or dinner. Is this a sign that theres way too much insulin being secreted all of a sudden or is it just a general way the body behaves during digestion. I have always had this issue of increased heart rate since 2006 Jan when I started having irregular periods and overweight and pcos. Before that I was healthy. Even if one loses the weight and no pcos currently, can I still face the side effects of being a year ago?
Please help. Thanks

Unless blood sugars are way, way off (diabetic ketoacidosis for example), there should be little to no symptoms...
These effects are most likely due to other thinngs, and stay well hydrated and is a way the body can behave during digestion in some as you have to consider more blood goes to the stomach for digestion, leaving a little less for the heart, which compensates by pumping a little harder (sometimes known as "food coma") If any questions though, always best to visit a doc to have a check up...
