Getting Sperm Analysis before getting on Clomid or any fertility drug??????

September 17, 2007

How many of you out there has had there husband get his sperm count before getting put on Clomid or any fertility medication?? I just read somewhere that said "Clomid, or any other fertility drug, should never be administered until the male has had a semen analysis".

We didnt do this, and now im wondering if we should, but my husband still is iffy about getting his little soldiers examined. What should we do??

Please feedback will be great. Thank you all.

Jolene,

My husband was checked about a month ago just to be on the safe side. My husband did the test at home and then ran it over to the lab to get checked. We found out within 5 days time. If your clomid doesnt work on this try- then you might want to get your hubby checked, just to make sure!:)

Thanks Jen, I will def. do that. We do although have time to do it now, before TTC at the begining of October. So I wonder if I should buy one of those at home tests. I think I will do that! Then if it turns out bad or something we will go and get him tested, I know he said something about feeling bad if his was low, but its not his fault, and im sure we can fix it. Plus it could be the reverse of that and he could have over achievers...haha

Jen how much did it cost yall to get it done?? Thanks sweetie!

Hi,

My husband had it done after TTC 6 months. We did it at a clinic and had results within a day. I'm not sure how much info you get out of an at home test. But if they aren't expensive it may be a start. Hope this helps...good luck

Thank you. I hope that it works, if not what kind of clinic did yall go to? Can they do it virtually anywhere?? I have never had to deal with this, so I have no idea exactly where to go....thanks Fran!

How much did it cost yall?

Since ours was prescibed it was through the insurance. So I'm not sure how much it would be out of pocket. I think they can do it at most women's hospitals or fertility clinics. The good thing is your husband is willing. Mine was a little freaked out at the beginning but knew how much it meant to me. You could call you gyne....they should be able to refer you.

Thank you. Yeah he isnt totally 100% willing, he is freaked out, and scared to get results in regards to it not being good or something wrong with his men...haha.

I just wish he would look at the positive, and maybe think of getting good news, like they are excellent and over achievers...haha.
