GBS Positive
May 15, 2008
Hello Dr. Q! :-)
I just had my 39-week prenatal appt. this morning and I asked for a membrane sweep. My doc said she couldn't because my GBS came back positive and she can't risk doing something that might accidentally break my amniotic sac. I was told that I will be treated with IV antibiotics when I go on labor. I'm currently 3 cm dilated and 75% effaced. My doc told me that I'm progressing and that she's hoping that I will go on labor anytime this week. If I still am pregnant until my appointment next week, I will be scheduled for an induction. I understand that as long as the baby is still within the amniotic sac, she will be safe from the Group B Strep...but my concern is--what if my water bag breaks before I get treated for it through IV, will my baby get infected? I am so scared that my water bag will break anytime before I go to the hospital.
Thank you again for your expert advice.

Lexie.. hurry up and pop :o) It's my turn after you... so get that Bella on out of there so Christian will follow suit!!! :o)
Hehe.. how are you feeling? I spent 5 hours in the car yesterday (long story) on bumpy roads.. and despite a ton of low back pain, cramping, and a few really painful contractions.. no labor!!!!! I got my breast pump out this morning and figured out how it works.. I'm seriously considering playing with that later to see if it does something... I'll probably just end up sore.. but... hey.. I'm willing to be sore at this point.. haha..
Poor dh.. he wants the baby here now so bad so he can spend time at home.. I'm trying as hard as I can to get him out!

Thank you, Dr. Q! I feel more reassured now that everything will be okay with her against the stupid Group B Strep. hehe!
I'm feeling more and more tired lately, Fran. I just feel like I don't want to move because I just feel soooo heavy. I even have a hard time getting my pants on because it hurts to raise my legs now. I can feel in my heart that it will be any time now, Bella will be here...at the same time, I have a feeling that she will wait until I will be induced next week. haha! She found her comfort zone in there and she doesn't want to get out!
Oh Meghan, I felt exactly like that 2-3 weeks ago. I even took the plunge and pumped milk out. I was soooo surprised at how much I was able to take out! I saved the 2 oz. in the freezer as Bella can still take that as long as it's frozen. I did get "notorious" contractions out from that. I thought I was feeling real labor because they were sooo hard and painful. But after I stopped, everything stopped too. Then my hubby was joking around and told me--"It's showtime!!" My in-laws kept calling and other family members asking how I was feeling. Gosh! PRESSURE!! Then I realized that I can't overpower nature, and that I couldn't control when Bella wanted to be out. I am so desperate right now, but I know one day, she'll be out and nothing's going to stop that. I'm sure that Christian will be the same way. When he comes out, he'll be completely developed and very healthy, and I'm sure you'd want him healthy more than anything else. :-) Everytime I get frustrated why Bella is still in my belly, I try to think that if it takes this long to bring a healthy baby out, it's worth the wait.

haha! Gosh! Don't you just hate answering those calls? I love my mother-in-law to death, but sometimes I get irritated. Sometimes I don't answer the phone anymore and just tell her later on that I was taking a nap, blah! blah! I know they don't mean anything bad, they're just as excited as we are. What's even worse, my hubby's cousin and aunt started to make a "bet" that I would give birth on a certain date...that doesn't make me feel better! LOL!
I was scared that after that I would start leaking because I started pumping early, or even worse, I would lose my milk because I already started and didn't continue. But I've read that our body will release a hormone that will continue producing milk esp. when the baby is delivered. So, I felt reassured after that. LOL!
hahaha! Yeah, that's why I froze the milk and let Bella drink that as soon as we get back from the hospital. I still get the yellowish discharge when I squeeze my nipple, so I know I still have that colostrum left for her to drink when we're still in the hospital.
Where are you going to get the castor oil? Gosh! Do be careful, ok? When you won't be able to write back, that means you're in the bathroom or already in the labor and delivery. hehe!

Thats definitely a good idea.. i'd suggest getting the new bottles that function like the breast so you don't end up with nipple confusion! I think they are made by dr brown. i have one.. need more than that really!
Oh i will be.. i've done hours of research on it.. and the conclusion I've come to is it will only work if baby is ready.. and if it doesn't work, I'll just be really uncomfortable.. but apparently it doesn't hurt the baby at all.. so we'll see

Haha.. that would be a long drive! oh man.. I watch a ton of discovery.. travel... discovery health.. haha.. guess i'm a geek too! I was watching the ghost documentaries.. but now i've seen every episode.. haha.. lol i'm the same way! and we had the windows open the other night and it was insanely windy, and the attic door wasn't down tight, and so the wind sucked it up halfway open and i was crapping my pants.. haha

little to worry, so long as 4 hours have transpired after the "penicillin" meds were given prior to you "pushing" and especially if you're on your second dose, the risk of fetal GBS infection is very small...
