I have had 9 miscarriages, and last year, when I chanced RE's, he did a hysteoscopy(sp?) and found a full septum in my uterus. I was able to concieve after wards but unfortunatly in feb of this last year lost the baby at three months due to trisomy 21. (I saw a genetic councler and was told this was just a "bad egg" and that futere risks of this is >0.50%) My question is, I have always went strait to my ob when I found out i was pregnant and this time I am to go through my Re for the first 12wks. What can I expect to be diffrent with them and wht kind of test will they be dong on me?

Your RE has much more experience with recurrent miscarriages than a regular Ob, after all...this is an area we specialize in. You will be followed closely with ultrasounds to begin with. What also happened and you justly found out was that the products of conception were karyotyped (seldom done by Obs) so that you have this information and not blame yourself.

Most REs generally do a slough of blood tests to make sure everything is Ok, from figuring out whether you're predisposed to blood clotting, finding different antibodies, antiphospholipid syndrome, diseases, or even at times some may check immunological causes which may contribute to miscarriages.

Sometimes, REs will place patients on Progesterone throughout their first trimester, and may titrate the dose accordingly along with any other treatments that may be required for you to keep your pregnancy. Most of all, REs usually have a smaller volume of patients and can guide you by spending a little more time with you

I would stay with the RE through the first trimester. I did, and it was wonderful. I was able to be re-assured weekly that my pregnancy was progressing nicely. It was the emotional support I needed to not be as stressed that I would have another miscarriage. Thanks Dr. Q!!

Hmmm, you could call and see if they'd want to follow you until you're out of the first trimester. I'm not sure if they will since you weren't under their care before getting pregnant. Were you seeing one before though? If so, I'd give them a call, can't hurt. :)

Oh I just re read that you had an appt for March 14th, so yes give them a call and tell them that you are pregnant and I'm sure they'll want to follow you. How far along are you?
