follicle size before ovulation

TTCbaby.. when i went to my RE on CD3 my follicles were measuring about 4-6mm on that day. I did Femara, Gonal F and trigger.

By CD12 I had 2 mature follicles which measured at 18mm and 19mm.

Not sure why no follicles were seen on ur U/S unless u had O'ed already. That IDK tho. Just giving my opinion.

U have to ovulate to be able to get a period. If u dont ovulate then u will not get a period.

I hope that everything works out and u get a BFP!!

Hi TTCbaby - I had 3 pre IUI ultrasounds this week. Things are happening later than usual for me this cycle but I do believe that has to do with this being my second cycle on 100 mg Clomid. On CD12 they say 14 follicle, 9 on one side and 5 on the other, all immature, and less than 10. On CD15, 2 were looking good, growing, still immature, one was 11.9 and the other 14.1, CD17 (yesterday) they were close to 16 each. I am supposed to trigger tonight and I will have a second IUI on Tuesday.

TTCBaby.. also mature follicles are when they are at 16mm or bigger.

When on Gonal F then my RE likes to see the follicles at 18 - 22mm big.

I'm going in tomorrow again for an ultrasound......so let's see what happens.

I generally get a +ve OPK on CD16 (in the evenings generally) and then again on CD17. Today is CD16. I didnt get a positive today. So I guess I will be ovulating late this time.

Btw, both Katie and RaeH, your follicle size seems to be awesome.

Do you have any children already?

Also, what's this Gonal-F and Femara used for?

ttcbaby#1. Keep us posted on how this turns out. Katie is right, you should be able to see your follicles on CD3 of your cycle. That is weird that on day 13 there was nothing. By that time, they should be almost ready if not ready to be ovulated at size 16 or greater. Gonal F is an injection used to create multiple follicles since women only ovulate one per month on a natural cycle. Femera does the same thing, however is a pill and not as potent. Good luck at your appointment tomorrow.

Follicles grow 1-2 mm daily so to answer your question, 3-4 days before ovulation should put you at minimum 10 mm.

TTCbaby.. yes I have 2 children but not with my DH. My DH has no children. We have been TTC for 15months for our miracle but as of yet we havent gotten it.

And yes... TTC is right.. follicles grow 1-2mm a day without meds. THe meds help ur follicles grow bigger and give u more of them.

Hi! I'm wondering why they prescribe femara and injectables together?

ttcbaby, did they say they didn't see anything, or just immature ones? Because I just had my cd3 scan done and I saw a bunch of follicles although I forgot ask how many.

I've seen some women start off with femara and end with injectables. Maybe the femara didn't produce a great enough response so injections were used to finish off the process since they can be adjusted and then terminated when the follicles have released their appropriate size. Who knows!
