First IUI with Gonal F

December 22, 2008

Hello Everyone!! Hope all is well with the babymaking here...just had a few questions! Well I have been TTC for 9 months now - with no success on our own we opted for to go to a Fertility Clinic. ME 29 no issues, DH 32 no issues.

I ovulate on my own but the doc had put me on Gonal F shots for this month (I refused to take Clomid due to the horrible side effect and wanted to go straight to injectables). First 6 days I took 75 dosage, then moved to 112 and then 150.

So here is how it stands as of right now: Dec. 22nd

1 Mature Follicle at 18mm

Many many follicles at 13mm

In about 8 hrs I will receive my HCG shot to trigger ovulation and Tues/Wed I will have my first IUI!! Very excited and nervous really hope it works. My question is - what will happen to all those 13mm follicles? Will i have a chance to get pregnant with those follicles as well or only with my 1 lead follice at 18mm??

Its been very hard the last few months as well since my father is very very sick (major heart / kidney) issues and he's only 64 yrs old...I've been trying not to stress bout anything but its hard and i feel all that stress is having an effect on me!!

Anyhow - anyone else's experiences?? I am sending everyone out there LOTS of babydust and GOOOOOD LUCK!!! :D

Dadsgirl.. Welcome and sorry about ur dad. Hope he is doing ok now.

As for the follicles... the 13mm will get reabsorded in ur body and will not release since they are not mature.

Follicles are mature at 16mm ( boardline) and higher. With meds the RE like to see follicles 18 - 20 mm big.

When I did my IUI in Oct I had 2 follicles ( 18 and 19mm). I also did the Gonal F pin 37.5mg, Femara 2.5mg and the trigger shot.

That IUI failed tho but its ok.

Just remember that it only takes 1 mature follicle and 1 sperm to conceive. There are some girls on here that are preggo after the 1st IUI.

Good luck and loads of BABYDUST!

Thanks Katie! I went for my trigger shot this morning and i could not belive that 2 of my follicles grew 4 mm each! i only heard of them growing 1-2mm a day but not 4mm! Anyhow so as of this morning i had 2 mature follicles as per the doc - 1 @ 17mm and 1 @ 22mm so im excited maybe the other 13mm may have caught up as well :) ya never know..i know it usually take ones so i just would like more follicles to work with. Thanks and hope your doing well!

Dadsgirl.. good luck with your IUI let us now how it goes, I'm actually starting injectables in 2 weeks.. I did 2 regular IUIs (no medication) but didn't work, my doctor recommended clomid, follistim (injectables) and the trigger shot.. we are starting first of January. this would be my first "real" iui since i dont believe the other ones i had were monitered carefully or even timed right!

lotssssssss of Baby dust & let us know how it goes

Thanks Belle.....i went for my first iui this morning...to my surprise it didnn't hurt and i have little to no cramps right now..im beginning to think that may be a bad thing?? i dont know...

here's hoping i go for my other iui tomorrow morning.

Good Luck with your injections - make sure you get monitored closely so they know when to up ur injections....i am thinking i had 2 mature follicles tomrrow i'll find out how many acutally ovulated! I wouldn't do the clomid..hear horror stories and its better to use the injections !!

I don't know why my doctor wants to put me on all of these medication all together, though i ovulate on my own every cycle.. but we have a male fertility issue so probably he wants to triple the chances of getting inseminated..

Best of luck Dadsgirl..

we're at the same cycle, i haven;t done anything this month though.. i hope to get the ++++ without the medication!

my first 2 iui were bad, to my surprise they hurt a lot.. i hope this next one won't

dont worry about cramps!! you dont have to have cramps to be successful.. I really wish you get your ++ this cycle

best of luck xx

Dadsgirl.. congrats on ur IUI today and good luck on ur IUI tomorrow.

I cant wait to hear exactly how many follicles u had that O'ed. Man that would be great if u had 3 or 4 of them.

When I did my IUI w/ Femara and Injectables I only had 2 mature follicles which I was upset about. I wanted 3 or 4 but it didnt work out like that. I was going to cancel the IUI since I only had 2 but they talked me into it. I dont regret doing it at all but I wish I had more.

I had alittle cramping after but nothing major. My cervix is tilited so that might be why I had cramping.

Just b/c u dont have cramping that doesnt mean anything. Most ppl dont even know it was done.

Belle.. Good luck on IUI coming up. I hope that both of u ladies get BFP after ur IUI's.

thanks ladies! I actually dont have any known issues with me nor my hubby but I was still put on medication - personally i dont see there being anything wrong w/taking meds...its helps the process - as i had mentioned earlier i had skipped clomid altogether and went for Gonal F (injectableS) - much higher success rate/better controlled/less side effects. My insurance covers it as well and it is much more pricey than clomid alone.

...I am excited to go for my next iui tomorrow yet not cramps/symptoms as of yet - i guess only time will tell. As for the follicles - im assuming only 2 were mature - i too wish i had more but if it doesn't work this cycle maybe i'll get them to up the dosage next month! good luck!
