Fertility monitor

I use Clearblue Easy fertility monitor (on sale for $150 at Amazon.com or $200 at Walgreens). The test sticks are about $1 each and are usually "requested" by the monitor starting from about day 7. I test fertility until ovulation occurs which costs about $10 a month for a regular cycle. The monitor rates your fertility as "L"ow "M"edium, or "O"vulating. I find that this monitor is very accurate and gives 2 sequential "O"s. The second "O" day is 14 days before my period starts. Apparently ovulation occurs around the second "O" day. My temperature usually goes up on the day after the second "O" day.

Thanks for the info. I have been trying to decide whether or not that purchase would be worth it. Are you completely happy with your purchase?

Yes I would buy this again. If you're just starting this is the best thing to help you get to know your cycles. The machine gives you a definite answer; however after using this for 2 years (grr!) I no longer use the machine. I can read the test strips myself. If I were just starting, though, I would start with the machine.

However, I find that ovulation test strips from Early Pregnancy Tests work better, and are cheaper. Also I now test twice a day (apparently if you test once a day, it is best to test in the evening). Go to Amazon and search for Ovulation-Tests-10-Pack.

I don't know if I would start out with these ovulation test strips or with the clear-blue machine if I were just starting out.

When the test line is as dark or darker than the control line, you are having the hormone surge which is a precursor to ovulation.

By the way the pregnancy tests from Early Pregnancy Tests are not as good as the First Response early pregnancy tests, which is the highest rated by Consumer Reports, and in direct comparison I've found First Response works better for early detection.

I also used a clearblue ovulation kit. It was $39 and shows either a o or an o with a smiley face in it. It worked for me because I got pregnant the first time trying it.

Angelfish, if you got 1 very light line, that means that you are not close to ovulating. As soon as you can see the 2nd line show up, you will ovulate probably within 5 days.

When the test line (the one closest to where the urine went) is as dark or darker than the control line, you are experiencing the hormone surge just before ovulation. You will ovulate the next day!

If you are trying to lose weight, make sure that you continue to get good nutrition, especially folic acid! Lots of veggies & protein & stuff.

Hi Sundse. Do you have to use a test strip every day or just for part of the month? I am wondering how many test strips you are having to use per month. Has it helped you to track your cycles or not really..... I am trying to decide if it is worth my while to invest in one or not. Let me know!! Thanks a bunch!!!
