Femara vs. Clomid

Could Femara work if clomid didn't? Clomid didn't make me ovulate, but could Femara?

It MIGHT work, but my RE says that Femara is a weaker drug. Did you try higher doses of Clomid?

LETROZOLE WORKS BY A DIFFERENT MECHANISM THEN CLOMID SO IT IS POSSIBLE TO OVULATE WITH THAT VS CLOMID. I WOULD GIVE IT A TRY, BUT IF THAT DOES NOT WORK THEN MOVE ON TO EITHER INJECTABLES OR IVF.

I took Clomid 3 times & it never worked on me. I switched to an RE and they put me on Metformin with Femara & I got pregnant the first month! DEFINITELY worth a shot. Just make SURE you are NOT pregnant when you take it. Clomid has a really long half life, so it is normally still in your body when you conceive and won't harm the baby. However, Femara has a 45 hr half life (out of your body in about 90 hrs). You take it days 3-7 so it makes you ovulate and is out of your body long before you conceive. It has been linked to birth defects if taken WHILE you are pregnant. but none if taken just for ovulation. Also, Femara is used as a cancer drug, so if your insurance doesn't normally cover Clomid (since its just used for fertility) it may cover Femara. I am a 100% supporter of it. I have been trying to conceive for 13 months & 1 month on femara got me pregnant (with an IUI - but it was the first time I managed to have a timed induced ovulation.). I tried clomid at 50 twice and 100 once.

How to I get them to precribe it to me? I'm about to be refered to an RE, do you think that he will let me do Femara?

Femara is considered a breast cancer drug. It's not FDA approved for infertility treatment. My RE said that he Rx it occasionally, but not often. And if he does, he requires you to sign a bunch of forms waiving liability for any birth defects in the baby. My OB/GYN will not Rx it at all for infertility.

It will be your RE's decision as to whether or not they will Rx it.

My RE prescribed it with Metformin & I didn't have to sign any waivers. I was concerned about taking it at first but they gave me a bunch of studies where it showed it was 100% safe for fertility. They were greek to me, but I showed them to my husband who has a PhD in Endocrinology and he said it was safe, mostly b/c of the 45 hr half life. It's completely out of your system when you conceive it just induces ovulation. I didn't actually ask my doc for it. I just told them Clomid didn't work and they recommended Femara. Maybe just bring it up to your RE when you meet with them and ask what their office policy is on it.

It worked for me and a friend of mine - both of us failed on Clomid. It also doesn't have any of the side effects of Clomid which is nice.

I just got one - but I don't know what it is yet. I'm SOOOO ANXIOUS! I really want it to be a girl, but I would be just as thrilled with a boy :)
