Dr?? D&C question

Babyque... I had a d&c Tuesday (a week ago today)as prt of several surgeries (laporoscopy, hysteroscopy, dye study and d&c) and I also didn't bleed after a little spotting the first day.

Hey Baby Q. With my first D&C it took over twelve weeks, and estrogen and provera to start my period. The second D&C I started on my on after 4 weeks. I didn't bleed at all after the first procedure, but I bled lightly for about two days after the second.

Another question- i took an hpt this morning and it still says pregnant :( ...when are my horomones supposed to drop???

I got my period 4 weeks from the date of my D&C. I went in for blood work every week. When I got my period my level was 5 (I think anything under 2 or 3 is what it should be). They said 5 was fine and no more blood work was needed. So, it took me 4 weeks. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know what a "normal" decline is for hcg levels after a d&c???

That I don't know. When my levels dropped there was no 'rhyme or reason' to how the numbers were dropping. In the beginning it seemed as though they dropped at a higher rate. The further out I got from the D&C it seemed they dropped slower.

so long as there's a decline, there isn't a normal range in dropping hCG after a miscarriage or D&C, so long as it drops...if it remains stable or increases, then there could be a problem...but these situations are quite unlikely

how high were your levels baby? I would have assumed they would be gone by now, esp with the D&C. Can you call your doc and ask them to do a blood test to see how high the numbers still are?

I talked to my doc yesterday and as you know we m/c at the same time, so i am 2.5 weeks after my bleed now. I asked when to expect AF and he said if i didnt get it in 8 weeks from the m/c that i should have soem tests to make sure nothing was left behind or starting growing (really? yikes!). I havnt taken any tests cuz i cant look at them being + but i would have sworn mine would be a - by now.

Once the levels are low enough the estrogen jumps into action to start the follie growing and then you will ovualate and get AF so thats why it takes about 6-8 weeks to get AF after m/c. I guess it takes 2-3 weeks for levels to drop and then start the cycle.

I dont think you will bleed so try and stop waiting for it :)

thanks Chels (and Dr. q)! I don't know how high my levels are...but high enough to get a positive on a digital test :( I don't have any symptoms of being pregnant anymore (THANK GOD!!!!)...so I thought that i would get a negative at 15 days after the d&c. but my body is always funky and irregular.

I have a post d&c appt on monday and I have 100 questions for my doctor. I am sure she will check my hcg levels. She checked them the day before the d&c, so hopefully they are dropping.

I have read about people's numbers going up because of tissue (?) that was left behind...I REALLY hope that's not the case!

Also chels- its maybe a little theraputic to hope for a negative hpt! ha! I was laughing at myself this morning because I was bummed about the positive!

I am feeling better Chas- thanks!! :) Although, better is relative! I am still really hurting, but able to enjoy life a little again! I just want to be past this whole m/c time...its like is just keeps dragging on and on and it doesn't give you the chance to emotionally move on!

I am doing better. It was hard last week but the bleeding has stoped and my levels are 0. So I have been focussing on my boy and dh. I still don't really want to be around some people right now, but it will pass. I too had a lot of pain, and still cramp here and there. I am spotting now but not bleeding anymore. I also have a lot of headaches which is weird. Well keep me posted on how your doing. Thinking about you.

The headaches are the worst! Almost like migraine headaches! ug!

I had my d&c June 26 and my level is still not at zero. I had to go for biweekly and then weekly blood tests. I had my last one today, so hopefully it will come back zero. I know it's hard waiting for your level to drop all the way. For me it's like I'm still going through it. It's hard to start moving on/forward until it's zero. Hang in there BabyQ!

I have bad headaches too! I never had them like this before, and they came on after my misscarrage. I wounder if it is a symptom or something. Nobody said anything. I am eating ibupropin like tic-tacs. Hang in there.

Chas, no iburpofen!!! Its so bad for TTC and for pregnancy and baby.... i just posted about that - i think its called "Ibruporfen and TTC". Try tylenol or anything but ibuprofen :)

Chels and Chas- I have been taking advil (ibuprofen) since the d&c because that is what the doctor said to take for now??? I know when you are pregs its Tylenol only!

Anyway, I have stopped taking it...I only take drugs when I HAVE to!

i would call and ask the doc - im sure he said to take it cuz it works a bit better for pain and cuz you are not TTC or preggo after a D&C. He didnt tell you not to take it for long?

The vicoden that i take (occassionaly) has acedaminafen in it and i had to make sure that it had that instead of the ibuprofen cuz of TTC. Doc said its safer to take vicoden than advil! Can you imagine???

well thank you for the information! even though i am not ttc at this moment, i don't want to do ANYTHING to lower my preg chances even more!

Only thing I can think is cuz ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory and maybe after a D&C you are inflamed? My doc gave me Percoset for the m/c and I don’t know what is in there besides the morphine.
