Dr. Q, what will you suggest I would do?

May 04, 2008

Hi again, Dr. Q! :-)

I was awoken this morning with a strong contraction and were again 3-5 minutes apart. The contractions were really painful and I just knew that "it's time". When we reached the hospital, I was told that my cervix still has not changed from the last time (Friday). I was still in pain and still having 5-minute contractions, but still, my cervix was thinning and dilating. I told them my history with my daughter that even when I was already in Pitocin and in so much pain, I was not progressing properly, up until they ruptured my water bag.

They told me that I can't be induced because I'm only 37 weeks, and they suggested to give me morphine if I couldn't stand the pain. I refused to take morphine as I want to be able to compare the pain of my contractions.

What should I do at this point, doc? If this is not real labor, then what is it? Why am I feeling pain and having strong contractions but my cervix is still not dilating? Am I stuck feeling this pain until "it's time?"

Please give me your opinion, doc. Thank you!!

Lexie... I can sympathize with you.

I've been having these 3-5 minute contractions constantly for 9 days now. My cervix FINALLY dilated to 1 cm on Friday morning. I go again tomorrow to see where I'm at....

My doctor is being stingy with meds.. understandably... and gave me a few lortab.. I take them in the evening only, just once a day, when I need a break.. but inevitably I wake up in the middle of the night in so much pain I feel like I'm dying. They are so much worse at night time...

I wish I knew what to tell you.. the only thing I can think of... is try to help yourself dilate by doing alot of walking, and keeping that pressure of the baby's head on your cervix... have sex.. that helps the cervix dilated and efface... and nipple stimulation will produce strong contractions (I tried that today.... so I know it works!)

Only do that if you are comfortable going into labor, since you are early.

See, me, I've given up dealing with this. I have a feeling Christian will be just fine. If this has been going on for 9 days, my baby definitely wants out.. and I'm confident he'll be okay..so I've started walking...holding acupressure points, and doing just a small amount of nipple stim. I'llbe 36 weeks on thursday, and thats when the doc says its safe to give birth, so dh promises that on thurs he'll help me with sex..but he refuses to participate in getting me started until then...

So.. I'm really sorry you are going through this too! I hope that it doesn't last as long for you as it has for me! But, now maybe someone understands, at least a little, how i'm feeling! I've really been feeling like no one knows or cares. So.. I will be saying a prayer you give birth quick.. or yes, you, like me, will be stuck feeling this until its time. I'm currently in so much pain I want to pass out. the lortab isn't helping. :(

hang in there Lexie, taking Tylenol to take the edge off is sometimes recommended by docs...otherwise, try and hang on at home for as long as you can, your water breaks, or you start bleeding..

May 04, 2008

I really hope and wish u guys feel better. All these contractions cant be false, should mean something right? I guess its too complex for science to unravel the mystry. But its just waiting and its awful. Im grateful to God for not having the contractions, but Im sitting here wondering, 3 Cm open for the last 3 weeks, but when is it ever going to happen? However selfish it may sound, hang in there my friends for just another week. Then u can be assured that all is going to be well.

How are all the contracting ladies feeling today?

May 05, 2008

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I lost my mucus plug last night. It was very sticky and unbreakable with a tinge of dark red blood, and I knew it was my mucus plug. I hope that will help thin my cervix and get the labor going.

I also just started to cath my daughter's cold...waaaaaaahhh!! Such a bad luck, huh? I took Tylenol Cold right away and that knocked me out last night, which was a good thing. It gave me a break from the very uncomfortable and painful contractions. This morning, I felt very different. I had this sudden burst of energy. I drove my daughter to school, went to the store to buy some food supply for the week, came home and cleaned the shower and tub and toilet... My husband was like--"What has gotten into you? You're worrying me!" He got scared when he saw me on my knees scrubbing the tub. He got mad, but I told him that I just felt like I needed to move around. I would stop everynow and then when I get those painful contractions, but moving around do help a little bit.

Meghan, I thought I sounded crazy when I was trying to describe my situation to the nurse at the hospital. I was asking them--"Why does it hurt so bad if I'm not in active labor yet?" I'm glad to share this and you feel what I'm feeling now. I also pray that you'll feel relief with your painful contractions.

Dr. Q, thank you for the encouragement. Now that I have a cold, I will be taking Tylenol Cold regulary, hopefully the acetaminophen in it will help my pain.

Lexie my friend gets like that about 24 hours before her labor begins. They call it nesting. Basically you are getting your place ready to bring that little one home. It is one of nature's ways of letting you prepare. I can't wait to see pictures of your beautiful Bella!! ((HUGS)) This is really exciting. I remember the day you got your BFP!! Crazy how time flies! You will have that little girl in your arms before you know it!!

May 05, 2008

I agree with Liane. I was just reading about the "sudden burst of energy" many women get right before labor...and the desire to clean.

You're gonna have a baby, you're gonna have a baby. :)

May 05, 2008

Thank you so much, ladies. Yes, Liane, time flies indeed. I can't believe it myself that Sarah's Cameron is also born, when it just seemed like yesterday when we were all spreading those baby dusts in the mail. hehehe! My mother-in-law would call me every now and then to check how I feel. I told her that I just finished cleaning the two bathrooms and I'm about to start folding the laundry. She told me that it's "nesting", it's a mother's instinct before having her "young". hehe! I thought it's kinda cute, eh? If this sudden burst of energy indicates that we'll have Bella with us soon...then I can't wait!! Yipee!! hehe! I'll be 38 weeks this Thursday...if she'll wait until Thursday, that would be better. If she'll come out anytime soon, I can't stop her from coming out if she wants to.

May 05, 2008

Good Luck Lexie- sounds like the birth is near!!! How exciting!

May 05, 2008

Yes goodluck Lexie!!

I think you are going to have Bella in your arms by the end of this week for sure!!

You are def. nesting and take FULL advantage of it and get whatever you need to get done, done. Cant wait to see pictures of little Bella soon!!!!

May 05, 2008

That is nesting, it is good to do those last minute things before baby comes b/c you will not have time afterwards, good luck lexie!

May 05, 2008

Ok, Lets see who goes in first..u or Meghan :)) both of yall have due dates that are technically behind me though lol

May 05, 2008

Oh Lexi hang in there! Wish you would dilate to get you out of this pain and with a new baby in your arms!! :) Hugs and take care

May 05, 2008

How great another FT baby!! WOW!!

May 05, 2008

Haha.. I think Lexie will go before me! I know Hope.. its crazy.. you were supposed to be next!!! Geeze! ;o)

May 05, 2008

Hey LExie and Meghan,

Do yall feel ur upper portion of the uterus to be hard and the lower portion below the belly button softer? Its really really soft and plushy lol. The upper part is hard all the time and gets worse during BH.

May 05, 2008

Yup.. the bottom have of my tummy is much softer.. even during a contraction....

May 05, 2008

Hey Lexie/Meghan,

DO yall feel crampy just like when AF comes? I DK if its contractions or what coz it doesnt hurt me bad but its lingering and constantly present. May be its just some bad food I ate who knows. Also, the vaginal area seems to be wet (no leaking) like before AF and kinda open lol. Have yall felt this? Also I hvae my PMS symptom- Left leg pain. I have a Dr appt on THursday which is far far away :))

May 05, 2008

I'm much more wet down there. My dr kept asking me about it, and I finally was... she also keeps asking if I've noticed any mucousy or bloody stuff.. but nothing yet.

Yeah.. thursday does feel far away

May 05, 2008

Lexie.. how are you feeling today? Any progress on that labor?!

May 05, 2008

Hello lovely hot mamas!! :-) hehe!

I sure did wear myself out today. haha! I myself can't believe what I did today. Hubby and I have not prepared the nursery yet. We haven't assembled any of the furniture yet...but I was way too energetic today that I "dared" to assemble both the crib and the chest drawer. I have always loved assembling furniture, that's one thing I really got from my dad (hehe). It was hard because everytime I drop something on the floor, I have to get a long "clamp stick" to get it. LOL! This stick is actually meant for the disabled who can't reach for some things because they're in a wheelchair. But since I've been on my sewing machine a lot, I bought this to pick up anything I drop on the floor. I look really goofy with it, but what the heck! It's very helpful!

Anyway, I've been taking Tylenol Cold daytime every 4 hours today, and it did help a little bit with the pain. I just took the Tylonol night time and I'm supposed to be feeling sleepy in a few minutes. I'm having contractions right now as I'm typing this, but they're not as bad as yesterday's.

Hope, I have been feeling that "crampy" feeling as if I'm on my first day of my period. I do get alot of white creamy discharge, then last night, I finally saw the thick, sticky and bloody mucus discharge, which was for sure my mucus plug. But seeing that mucus plug doesn't mean I am having my labor soon, but there are some women who start having strong contractions right away after losing their plug. At first I thought I already lost my plug without me noticing it as I'm already 3 cm. Hope, have you seen your plug out yet?

May 05, 2008

Oh wow Lexie... my SIL says you get a sudden burst of energy before you go into labor... I'm so exhausted today... so.. I must have a few days left....:o) I'm forcing myself to clean and finish up a few things. I got dh to put the carseat in the car and hang pictures in the baby's room! :o)

I can't wait for your baby to get here!

May 05, 2008

Oh, by the way, Hope, labor pains is similar to that of AF pains and dysmenorrhea. If you're feeling those symptoms now, you're almost there. Having those feelings before 36 weeks can sometimes be scary because it can be a sign of preterm labor. But if you're past that, your body is definitely getting ready for the big day.

May 05, 2008

I can't wait for us all to have our babies...FT BABIES. :-) Product of BABY DUST and STICKY GLUE. hehehe!

Yeah, my body was already screaming to stop, but I just can't drop what I was doing. When I finally finished, I washed the crib sheets. Tomorrow, I'll fold Bella's clothes and put them her chest drawer. I normally don't like folding...I'm sure that I'll eventually get tired of folding Bella's very tiny clothes, so I'm taking advantage now. LOL!

May 05, 2008

Thanks ladies for sharing ur experiences. The cramping has stopped now. I havent seen the mucous plug/bloody discharge. But I D K coz Ive been having a YI the last 10 months and Im taking the vaginal creme Monistat now last 10 days. Today I screwed up big time, I took 1/2 the applicator full of the creme and I put it in. Now Im freaking out that since the cervix is open it would have gone inside? Yikes last thing I want to screw up right now.

Me and DH we assembled the swing and then the bassinet we opened it, looks like it was a returned product all scratched up so gotta go get a new one.

Hope all of us have a safe delivery
