Dr Q, or DR Littman, Q~ about my lining

July 16, 2008

I called my RE because I had my first IUI Sinday June 13,2008- At my CD 9 appointment the nurse commented that my lining was 4.5mm.. but showed 3 stripes..and I have a wonderful follicle size 20mm..along with one 15mm and 13mm. I had taken clomid CD 3-7 at 5mg-- I got a call on CD 9 at night to go ahead and trigger with 10,000 IU of Novarel.. and the IUI was done 36 hours later... But my lining or lack of bothered me.. so I went on line and researched lining and then to my dissapointment discovered linings 8mm-13mm are ideal so I called my RE.. this was her response.. would you concur..

"She assures me that my lining is fine and told me that adding estrogen between CD 9-Cd11 would have done very little as my blood work on CD 9 showed an estrogen level over 900... She said the most important thing is that they saw 3 stripes.. Also that clomid does make for a thinner lining, and thats expected.. she said that there is a chance if the egg fertilizes it will successfully implant in my lining...She said she would never have done the IUI if there was not a chance.. she also said doing the IUI was better than intercourse because the sperm are right in the uterus.. I just do not know what to believe.. she is super nice and told me that I have a great follice and 3 stripes, excellent estrogen level and all those 3 things combined make for a good chance at a successful IUI.. Please share your oppinion. Thanks

I know what you mean caryn, i love my office too but they are always sugar coating everything and it stinks. I want it straight even if its not good news. I know that "anything can happen" but i want to know what is most likely to happen instead of what "could" happen!

Im hoping that everything this month goes perfectly and im guessing that they wouldnt have told you it was fine if it wasnt so try, as hard as it is, to relax and hang in there!

much love

Right Chelsea- Just tell me straight up- good or bad.. I just hate thinking that it might work if there really is no chance..

July 16, 2008

hey caryn and chels, my doc is the same way too. i love them to death but they always sugar coat everything and that always gets my hopes. they get me all excited thinking everything is good and then i get let down every month that i start my period...

Okay, I shoot straight from the hip so here goes. Your lining needs to be at least 8mm for a good chance at implantation. I ALWAYS add in estrace vaginally on cycle day 9 especially if it is looking thin. She is correct in saying the the triple line pattern is important, but not correct in saying a lining of 4.5mm is okay... I would switch to using either injectables or letrazole next cycle, because these would not have as much impact on your endometrial lining.

Thank you Dr Littman :)

Hi Caryn!

I also had the same problem with clomid. My lining never got over 5mm. When I switched to the injectables my lining was always between 10mm-12mm when I ovulated. So the injectables worked! Unfortunately the Femara (letrozole) didnt work for me but it does work for many women so I would give that a try next cycle! Praying you get your BFP though and there is no next cycle! Dont worry hun, you'll get your 2nd baby :) xoxo

does the clomid mess with everyones lining? How do the ladies who arent monitored during clomid cycles end up with babies - does the femera do the same thing with the lining?

July 17, 2008

it messed with my lining and i only took 50 mg for cd5-10 i am now on crinone

July 17, 2008

Chelsea- Very good point... IDK how those women do get preggo.. so far most people I know or talk to have the same issue as me.. and they always end up switching to Femara...

I am under the impression femara does not mess with lining nor does injectables..

Caryn, if not preggo are you going to try femara or injectables?

July 17, 2008

Kan- we are going to freeze DH's sperm.. I posted about it...

I think when we freeze we can only use it for IVF..if that is the case, that is what we will do..

My lining always thinned on clomid and I had much better luck with femara. I also supplemented with estrace and progesterone.

July 17, 2008

BP- But you got your BFP right?? and if I am right your lining is only 6.5mm correct?

I did! I went in on cd 15 for an US which was 3dpo and they measured my lining at 6.5mm. I asked my RE if that was still too thin and she said it wasn't. I started noticing symptoms around 6 dpo so I'm guessing implantation started around then - but I'm not sure. So, that probably gave it a few more days to build. I've been scared of a chemical given the lining but my HPT was darker this morning so hopefully that's a good sign.

I never say it won't work, but it is highly unlikely with a lining that thin. Regardless of the serum level of estrogen, I still would add in estrace vaginally and I have seen some very good results. I would not do another clomid cycle if this does not work, I would do either letrazole or injectables because they won't affect the lining as much.

July 21, 2008

Thanks do much Dr Littman- I was not under the impression that you said indefinately it would not work.. no worries :)

But if it did work, there must be a high chance of M/C because of a lining so thin, or am I wrong?

July 21, 2008

this is true caryn...if the lining is to thin it wont hold a pregnancy. "if the soils not good, the plant wont grow". this is what ive been dealing with for the past 3mths. finally this month my lining was 8cm...my doc put me on tamoxifen for that and it worked!!

July 21, 2008

thanks Kris- I am so confused as my own RE assures me my lining is fine.. but when I went in for my CD U/S it was 4.5MM and I triggered that night, and had IUI last Sunday.. I did speak to her voicing my concern, and told her that I was dissapointed she would do the IUI if my lining was not thick enough.. again she told me it was fine.. I hate it when docs sugar coat things, but as we all know she would not admit of any wrong doing.. so I am 9 DPO

July 21, 2008

i know the feeling about the suger coating. i hope that everything works out for you!! keep me updated! im only 1dpo...i have a long two weeks ahead of me...lol

This makes me nervous as I'm 4w3d pregnant but when I had an ultrasound 3 dpo my lining was 6.5. My HCG level is increasing (went up from 145 13 dpo to 429 15 dpo). Should I be concerned about the lining though?

July 22, 2008

BP- I do not know what to think, as my RE assures mine would be fine, but if its not, then why the heck make me wait the 2ww and then worry the whole time about m/c...urrggh this is annoying

I hope BP that all goes well, perhaps ask your doctor... as I would like to know his/her oppinion too
