Dr Q, is this true?

Is it true that nipple stimulation is a dangerous way to induce labor?

Nipple stimulation in the 3rd trimester can if frequently done and prolonged, create contractions due a hormone that's release, oxytocin, which is the same hormone that causes contractions...

As a historical act, in the olden days, there used to be a contraction stress test to check for fetal well being, and the contractions were caused by repeated and prolonged nipple stimulation...

Meghan,

During a doctors appointment in my 3rd trimester for my 2nd pregnancy. The doctors made me sit in a room with a monitor on my tummy to do the stress test. I was soooo embarrassed but yep I had to do it, they had me basically flip the nips for a prolonged time to see the contractions. They did tell me that I could go into labor.
