Dr. Q, concern about bottle of Prometrium

Oh and by the way im pregnant, so thats why im freaked out. Should I be concerned. I thought it was fine to take Prometrium to help boost Progesterone. They had to have put it on the bottle by accident but the pharmacist was sooo unhelpful!

Yup, i had the same concern, called the dr. and he said to disregard what the bottle says and it's very safe. Been taking it for about 6 weeks :)

Im scared to take it. But he prescribed it just for the reason to boost my progesterone and such. It has to be a mistake on the bottle.

Im thinking about calling another pharmacy and asking, its really freaking me out, because I have taken this to start off me with clomid since that cycle was soo messed up because of the PCOS and not ovulating, and then I had to take it on Round 3 when I didnt ovulate to make AF come as well.

Thank you sweetie I just called another pharmacy and she said its perfectly fine they just have to put that on there, I guess for people who dont need to be taking it, that dont have low progesterone levels or something, either way its fine and im good to go...haha. Gosh that freaked me out!!!

Dr wants me to continue to take it till the second trimester. My progesterone was actually pretty good at 54 on 14dpo, but he prescribed it as a "precaution" because of my previous miscarriage.

Calling another pharmacy won't help, they will say the same thing "call your doctore".

My dr. and dr q both said it's controversial that it's useful, but it's very safe and "can't hurt"!

I think it def probably works. I know everytime I have taken it to induce my AF that it made me have MAJOR progesterone symptoms.

Either way I know anything around or above 15 is a good number and my was 14.3 on 6DPO, so im sure this will just be an added bonus :)

Provera has minimal effect as consumption allows likely little to infiltrate the endometrium...Although most all manufacturers will state not to take during pregnancy...many agree that for the most part all progesterone supplements that are either compounded or purchased are Ok to take in pregnancy...and usually only through the first trimester, because after that, the Placenta makes more than enough Progesterone in most all cases...

Vaginal or Intramuscular administration of Progesterone supplementation during the first trimester is usually recommended..

Hi Jolene!

I wanted to let you know a friend of mine is 9 weeks pregnant and has been taking the pill form of prometrium since about 6 weeks. Her progesterone was checked at 6 weeks and it was a 16 so they prescribed her prometrium. She's now close to 10 weeks and her progesterone is a 73. So it definitly does work! I wouldnt worry about what it says on the bottle. I have a bottle of Tylenol and it says on the side do not take if pregnant or breastfeeding-consult your doctor first. But tylenol is perfectly safe to take! I think they just have to put that stuff on there! But dont worry your just fine with taking it!

How is your hubby taking the news? He has to be beyond excited:) Have you told your parents yet? Also, is it warm there today? My brother in law lives in Raleigh and it's 74 there today!

Is it safe to take tylenol like every 5 hours or so if needed? My lower back has been killing me and getting some minor cramps, so I took 2 Tylenol @ noon and again at 6:30. Thats 6 1/2 hours, but just checking. I didnt know if you could over take Tylenol.

Hubby is excited, doesnt want to get to excited till we know more of course :)

Havent told my parents im gonna wait I think till we see the heartbeat and stuff. And know all is ok. We may do dinner with them that night and with his parents since we are traveling to Lousiville KY, that next morning, but we will see. That should work out perfectly. I want to kinda tell them all together though :)

Its been SOOOOO nice here, I love the spring here. Dreading the summer heat though, I had to crank my AC today...haha, and it was 80 I think.

Haha thats a good idea...a really good idea.

I think we are gonna wait till we leave for Louiseville to tell the soon to be grandparents (first time grandparents for mine, and my hubbys well they have a grandson in Texas and we are in South Carolina, so needless to say never see him, and ours is going to be OMG sooo spoiled, im soo happy about that...haha)

But yes im gonna have to do the one for my dad as "If Mom says NO ask Grandpa" because my daddy always said yes to me, ESPECIALLY when my mom said no to me...haha it was soo funny, I played them well, but gosh I have such GREAT parents. Then I will do the one "Grandma did it" because she is always right and never does anything wrong...haha.

My first trimester my doctor prescribed a vaginal suppository to boost progesterone level... if you are concerned ask about that.

thats what im taking. Its a progesterone supplement taken vaginally.

Its totally fine. I have talked to several people, and my friend who is a labor and delivery nurse and she said they give there patients that early on as well, so im in the clear.

Im doing the same thing, it says the same thing, but the RE has me taking 2 per day- IM sure this will help you.... :) IM glad that they are taking this precaution for you and that little one :)

Thanks sweetie, yeah I totally FREAKED out, I was like OMG WHAT!!! Haha. I wonder how many ladies have done that...haha. They need to not put that on ther IF its prescribed for starting an AF or to boost progesterone for pregnancy.

I take 1 a night, but im sure it will help. I wish they were doing 2 a night, but oh well, im sure 1 will do the trick, I have a good feeling about this little sweetie pie :)

I'm glad you liked the idea..you should have dh come up with something cool and different for his parents...like call ahead to the resturant and have them do a cupcake with a baby rattle or something that would be cool and it will take them a sec or 2 to catch on

hey sweetie. We are telling my parents and his parents on Easter Sunday, with easter baskets.

We will see them both that Saturday night, but are going to wait till Easter Sunday. We will go to church at his parents church and give them there basket after church, and then we are heading to my brothers for a late lunch there, and we will tell him when we get there and then my parents should arrive soon after that, and will tell them at somepoint while we are there.

We are really excited :)

I am so happy for you I told you it would work this time. I too had a low progesterone level of a 12 and was prescribed prometrium 200mg a pill twice a day 12 hrs apart vaginally.

I took this until my 8th week of pregnancy as that is when your placenta will form and give you all the prometrium that you need.

Congrats and good luck, Don't worry and stress out as you get further along you will feel more reassured about the things that you are doing while being pregnant. Go slow and enjoy it.

What were your beta counts???

Freddy thanks, and yeah im just having fun and not stressing and excited about things.

I have to take the Prometrium once a day until my 12th week and then I will stop.

I didnt get betas done, they dont do them unless spotting were to occur.

I have been doing tests every other day and they keep getting darker and darker and darker. So I know thats a really good sign :) Thanks sweetie!!

Yes they know we have been trying since March. They were there (since I was still working with them from there home office then) when I came back from the doctor after finding out I have PCOS and was in TEARS.

So they are pretty much on the page. LOTS of my family knows, im pretty close with all my family, from parents, brother, aunts uncles, and cousins, its great :)

Jolene I am gonna call you worry bug..that is a name for us all...LOL..but i m glad that you found the answer because i wondered the same thing..I was also thinking that the drop in progesterone is what triggers the period right because it makes the body think that it did not get pregnant and that is how it makes your period come..and then once the placenta starts to take over the production and you go off of it vaginally it will not be a big drop becasue the placenta is now doing the job..is that correct...somebody correct me if i am wrong but i always wondered about this too..take care Jolene...

I think you are pretty right Summer. I think it has to be a big drop for AF to come, but if pregnant its not going to make a difference, well in the begining will because it could cause a miscarriage.

So yeah I will continue to take it till 12th week and after that lets let the placenta have all its fun and do its job :)

Hey Jolene! I know I'm late on posting this but I read a few messages above where you asked about Tylenol. Tylenol is definately safe in pregnancy, however, I wouldn't make is a daily thing to take. Tylenol is very harsh on your liver. My sister is actually pregnant right now (21 weeks) and she is in the hospital b/c she was taking 2 Tylenol every 6 hours, but she was doing so every day or every other day. She didn't know she was taking too much and the doctor told her that her liver count was high so they had to keep her in the hospital until her levels were back to normal. So definately, yes Tylenol is safe if you take it in moderation! Just be careful and only take it if you have to! Just wanted to give you my opinion and experience from that b/c I don't want you or any of the other wonderful ladies on here to go through what my sister did.
