Do I really need IVF?
February 11, 2007
I just had my ultrasound done and am taking injections. I just found out I have 12 follicles and I’m furious because my doctor is now recommending canceling my cycle. I’ve failed treatments two times before and I don’t want to cancel. What do you think I should do?

It may be better to cancel an IUI cycle with so many follicles in your case. If you are ademant that you desire to try again with an IUI, injectables can be tried again, but it is tricky and sometimes takes a long time to weed out only a couple of follicles with the injectable medications.
Sometimes in patients such as yourself, who on a low dose of injectables you overstimulate, yet I'm assuming don't produce follicles with either clomid or letrozole, IVF may be the answer since we can avoid multiple births by transferring only one or two embryos. What you do have to remember is that given the way you respond to medications, you have to hang in there, as it appears that your prognosis of having a baby looks extremely good.
