Do I need to take time off from work to do IVF?

I am a stay at home mom, so it wasn't an issue for me. It's really something you should ask your doc about..how much bedrest he wants you to do. Ideally, you will need the day of retreival off, and the day of transfer. My doc didn't require bed rest, but a lot do. Maybe a day or two. Now, your estimated retreival day may be a few days off give or take..just know that. It depends on when your eggs are ready. Mine was set for the 14th and it ended up being the 12th.

Maria- I also did IVF- and opposite from Kelli- My transfer date was to be on a Friday abut got pushed to a Sunday.. essentially I did a 5 day transfer rather then a 3 day-(my Retrieval date was right on)

I did take Monday and Tues out of work- because I own a daycare and do a lot of lifting

It is so difficult to tell about taking time off. I was in the same boat as you, needing to know. I am a teacher and really like to plan when I'm going to be out and need to get a sub. You will predict it as best as you can based on what the nurses can tell you. Explain your work situation b/c they tend to be kinda vague, about the schedule. My office told me to expect a 3 day transfer and then they would let me know if it changes to 5 day. They said most are 3 days and mine was. You will need to make some decisions about how much you want to relax after. It is really a personal decision. I was told after my IVF to relax the rest of the day and then I can resume regular activity. I'm pretty sure mine was around the weekend so I got lucky and did relax. The nurse said that there was research done that showed women who did do bed rest didn't have any better results than those who didn't. She said that most women do it for peace of mind to think that they did everything possible the help. Like Caryn said, it also depends on the type of job you have and how much activity you will be doing. Wishing you the best of luck, hopefully we will see a BFP soon!!!
