discharge in early pregnancy

I'm pregnant and I think I'm about 3 weeks post ovulation (I'm irregular so the pregnancy has not yet been dated). I've had blood drawn for 3 quant. HCG tests and the levels are rising so far (the first reading from Monday BW was 63, Wednesdays's reading was 186, and Friday's BW results are not in yet). Nausea and smell sensitivity aside I feel fine, but for the past 4 days I have had a lot of clear watery discharge, which for 3 of those days included a very slight brownish-red tinge for about half-hour or so in the afternoon (only present upon wiping). Today, the discharge has been totally clear but there's still enough that I have to wear a panty liner. What causes this?

I have read that discharge is common in early pregnancy. The brownish might even be left over implantation bleeding. I would let your dr's office know on monday and see what they think. Obviously if the bleeding doesn't progess with any cramping or abdominal pain that's a good sign. I have suffered two miscarriages and it's a bleeding that progesses and you just know it's different than say a period would be. Enjoy this time and keeping fingers crossed for monday...

Increased discharge in pregnancy is very normal, it is from the elevated hormone levels. Even with the brown tinged discharge I wouldn't worry too much because you are doing everything you can at this point by having serial HCG's & there is nothing else we could check this early in pregnancy even if you were actually bleeding. As long as your HCG levels are rising appropriately & you aren't having any pain on one side or the other I wouldn't be worried. It all sounds very normal, Congrats!

Thanks KDNAHM. It's good that the bleeding seems to have stopped and that it was so light in the first place but I will take your advice and let my doctor know about it on Monday. I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriages and I think you're attitude is amazing considering what you've been through. Lots of luck to you as well.

Meghan is right you are doing all that you can but I know it's nervewracking waiting for those hcg's to come in. You can make yourself go crazy with it. Thanks for the support though, it's been a tough road and I don't know what the future holds but I am hoping there is a baby in the future. Congrats to you.

3rd HCG count (taken Saturday morning since I didn't make it to the lab on Friday) is 659! I don't think my HCG count was this good with my now 5-year-old daughter. I didn't wright her numbers down but I know they weren't rising as fast as my dr (same one) wanted to see but I still carried her to 39 weeks. When I miscarried a year and a half ago my count only got to 71 and then dropped to 32 2 days later. My dr doesn't seem concerned about the discharge, especially since I haven't seen any blood since Friday. At his suggestion though I have an appointment later this week. Hopefully, we can date the pregnancy at that time. Thank you so much for all the support ladies. All the encouragement really does help. KD, I'll pray that you have something to celebrate very soon.

OK, I'm still trying to stay positive but I'm not out of the woods yet. I had some more blood-tinged discharge yesterday morning, which didn't stop like it did last week. I called my doctor about it yesterday morning and he sugessted I have one more quant HCG done before my scheduled ultrasound on Thursday. I had the blood drawn around 1 PM yesterday and the numbers still look good - - the count came in 2 hours ago at 1,919. Meanwhile, the spotting has continued and even gotten a little worse (it still isn't enough to soak a maxipad or anything but as of 7:30 last night, the spotting sent from blood-tinged to just bloody and this morning I had some clots). it seems there's nothing to do but wait for my u/s and hope I can see the sac.

Kelly-

I am so sorry you are having to go through this, I know how nerve wracking this can be! I will definitely keep my fingers crossed for you tomorrow! I actually just found out that I am pregnant as well! I am excited but still very cautious because I have had so many losses. So far just had one HCG which was 54 & my prog was 21. I am repeating the HCG again tomorrow, so we will see how that goes. Pls let me know how your US goes, I will be thinking about you! Take care & rest!

Thanks Meghan. Good luck to you as well. As for me, I guess the good news at this point is that I don't really have any bad news. I started bleeding heavily but intermittently yesterday morning (still happening) but when I saw doc later that afternoon, he said I'm probably 6 weeks pregnant, my cervix is closed, and my uterus is enlarged so he couldn't tell me why I'm bleeding. I also had an u/s this morning and the sac is there but it's too small right now to see a heartbeat (it's only measuring at around 4 weeks pregnant, which isn't possible since I've known about the pregancy for 2 weeks). I bled a little in the first trimester when I was pregnant with my daughter but not like this. I wish I knew what's going on.
