delayed ovulation due to exercise
August 18, 2008
Doctor,
This is my 3rd cycle trying to conceive. For this cycle, I have been doing strength training and aerobics classes 4 times a week (this is my 2nd week of working out consistently). I got a lot of EWCM and 2 peak days on my monitor. Today I got a high on the monitor but my temp is still low. I am on CD 19, which is late for me to ovulate- I have consistent 29 day cycles and 12 day luteal phase. Is my intense exercising delaying my Ovulation and will it mess up chance to conceive? Also, should I scale back on the intensity in order to conceive?

Hi Rhonda! I started working out with a personal trainer in May doing strength and fitness training. I am not overweight, never have been. Cycles were like clockwork give or take 2-3 days, ovulation always took place between CD18-CD20. I started the program the week I was to ovulate. I got a +OPK around my usual time so I thought all was good. After being a week late and thinking I'm finally preggo after 9 months TTC, I had a blood test done and not only was I not preggo but I never ovulated. That cycle lasted 49 days and I finally O'd on CD37. The following cycle I did not O at all. I just finished my training last week and was supposed to ovulate last week also. My temps are up so I think I did....sorry so long but in conclusion, YES! It can throw you off, especially if you went from not exercising or now and then excerising to consistently exercising like I did.
You might just ovulate later this cycle. Any time you do something different to your body's "comfort zone" it can throw it off. There is another member on here , KEM, who did weight watchers for 3 months and I think she told me she did not have a period for the entire 3 months.
Exercise is great while TTC, just dont overdo it. Keep your weights light and dont kill yourself with cardio. = )
