cycle

Hi,I'm 32 and I recently noticed that I have a shorter cycle than I used to, usually 22-23 days (occasionally 21, 24), whereas when I was younger it was more like 25 days. I'm not sure when they got shorter, I only noticed it in the last few months. I got married 8 weeks ago and we're trying to get pregnant. I'm worried about what the shorter cycle could mean. I don't have any health problems that I'm aware of, I'm not on any medication, I had a big job change last year and then a personal crisis and lost 5 then another 5 kilos (have regained most of it), but have been in a healthy weight range throughout. Should I be concerned about my fertility? Thanks very much.

Hi Clare,

Your cycles still fall within the "normal range", which means no shorter than 21 days. Your fertility should be Ok, you may just have to look out for ovulation much earlier, and please use OPKs to confirm (start checkin around cd5). Good luck, and keep us posted..

Dear will start using an OPK on CD5 as you recommend. Thanks very much for the advice! Clare

I'm just coming off NuvaRing, which I was on almost a year. Been off of it about 2-3 months. My periods were extremely regular with NR, coming every 24 days on the day/hour! Now that I've stopped, my periods have landed in the 19-21 day cycle. It's strange, but this bit of info on your post has helped me, b/c now I know to look out for ovulation happening earlier! I have heard of something recently called Polymenorrhea (multiple periods in a month); something about how some women can ovulate during the time they are still bleeding from a period, and b/c of the endometrium lining still being shed, implantation may sometimes not happen successfully. I hope there are women out there that even w/ a short cycle have been able to conceive-- that'll give me some hope!
