Cud be pregnant & travelling

August 27, 2007

hello Dr. Q,

I ve read your posts and you are so wonderful in answering frustrated, worried ladies here. so first of all i wud like to thank you for the awsome job that you are doing. Now, here is my history.

I have PCOS (i ovulate regularly, but the cycles are 45-50days long). M 29 years old. Had a miscarriage beggining of the year at 10 weeks (blighted ovum). I have no kids. I was put on 50 mg clomid and 2000 mg metformin after the miscarriage. This is my fourth cycle on clomid and i ve also started taking asprin. Today, on day 41 of the cycle, i took HPT and it showed Positive.........!!!!!!!!!!!!

I m very worried, bcz three days back it didnt show a positve line. so my progestrone cud be low. I went for the blood work today morning and now waiting for the results.

We are travelling by road this friday for the long weekend. and its gonna be a 12 hour long drive. and may be some more driving during the weekend. we ll be back on tuesday though.

should i be travelling so early in the trimester if i m pregnant ?? and shud i continue taking asprin & Metformin?

August 27, 2007

I got a call from RE's office. It seems, i m gonna have miscarriage again. My HCG level is 1.2 and progestrone is 12.

this is so disheartening.

I am so sorry to hear about this Whitney. I hope that all turns out well for you in the future and that some day soon enough you and your husband will have a child. *************BADY DUST TO YOU!!************

August 27, 2007

are these levels considered too low?? i m not bleeding.

August 27, 2007

Hi Whiney,

Thank you for your kind words about our site. Whitney, it is very difficult to say what's going to happen, but I do see some inconsistencies...

an hpt would not be able to turn out positive with a blood value of 1.2...I would recheck your hpt again and if continued positive, would get another blood draw tomorrow, after another hpt check in the am (remember, hpts start detecting at about an hCG level at about 20). If your hpt still flashes positive, you can share this info with your RE for another blood test. For the weekend, and we do hope you're pregnant, it's ok to travel on the road, just stop every 2-3 hours to walk around for a couple of minutes. We recommend this because pregnant women who are sitting down for a prolonged period of time do start developing a risk of leg clots. Please let us know how this journey is unveiling itself...and like always...

i m sorry. actually the HCG is 12 and the progesterone is 1.9.

I m told that i ll definitely miscarry.

August 27, 2007

Whitney,

The Progesterone is in actuallity very low, and if does appear that you will probably get your period in a couple of days. We're sorry but we do know that you can conceive and things appear to work. Hang in there, and you'll see that soon enough, it will happen to you and we're always here to help

August 27, 2007

is there any medicine that i shud take to induce periods?

August 27, 2007

Hi Whitney,

Your period should come on it's own within the weeks end, and it's not going to be necessary to take any medicines. Have faith Whitney, and we'll help you get there!

August 28, 2007

got my periods today. so i have had one blighted ovum and one chemical pregnancy so far. does it make a case for recurrent miscarriage work up?

My RE has suggested several tests. cud there be something wrong with the egg quality?? i m so worried. what will i do if they find out something is terribly wrong with me.

August 28, 2007

Hi Whitney,

depending on what they find, may provide treatment, which may include Heparin, aspirin, Folgard but again all depends on what they find. One can make an argument for you, but also ask for these tests. Egg quality is primarily an issue in women older 37 or who have endometriosis. Good luck, think you'll be ok, and please keep us posted

August 28, 2007

I'm so sorry to hear about this. Miscarriages are so rough.. I've had two... not since I've been trying to concieve this time... Much love to you.

August 28, 2007

so sorry to hear about ur loss...never thought that getting pregnant would be on my mind 24 by 7!wanted to ask u a question here, how did u come to know that u have pcos? even my cycles are regular 21-24d and i also ovulate on my own, have some cysts on the ovaries which do not resemble the typical pcos pearl of strings...doc said i might have it or i might not have it, the treatment would still be the same but i really want to know for sure :( ...so just wanted to know how was yours detected?

August 28, 2007

thank u liane, Meghan, Champ and Dr. Q.

i know u understand my pain. i m so scared to get the further tests done. and will always be scared to get pregnant now on.

its getting frustrating month after month.and i ve lost hopes after this miscarriage.

champ,

after my first miscarriage my Ob did some blood tests to check LH, FSH and insulin resistance. and from the blood work report, she told me that i have PCOS.

August 28, 2007

Whitney,

Please don't be scared and we know it's tough, but it's important to hang in there. Take a month off if you must, then would definately get more blood tests, and if something turns out, then you'll get treatment for it. We're here to see you through and like always, we're wishing you the best!

August 29, 2007

whitney...hang in there as dr Q says...its not going to be easy but everything will fall into the right place with time....meanwhile try to stay calm and strong!

thanks for answering my question..appreciate it!

got HSG tests done, there is nothing wrong with my tubes. m going for the other blood tests for recurrent miscarriage very soon. I m so worried. what if they find out something abnormal with me or my husband. My RE is also going to perform karyotype tests.

what will happen if there is some abnormality with my or my husband's chromosomes?? in that case will i be able to have a baby ever???

September 12, 2007

Hi Whitney,

We're first of all, hopeful that there'll be a normal karyotype. If there is not, then conception can be possible and easily fascilitated through the use of PGD, where normal karyotyped embryos can be replaced back into the uterus after IVF. This is the worst case scenario, but as you see, it's still possible.

September 13, 2007

i still have lower abdominal pain from last week's hsg test. is it normal?? is it a sign of infection?

September 13, 2007

Hi Whitney,

There shouldn't be abdominal pain from an HSG, unless like you said there's an infection, but normally you may have abnormal, if not pus, for discharge...if this is the case, visit your doc immediately.

September 13, 2007

i do release some sticky discharge few times a day. but its not like pus. its like very sticky glue.

cud that be a sign of infection? I get abdominal pain every evening.

September 14, 2007

Hi Whitney,

That sounds like normal discharge, not consistent with an infection, but only a doc examining you can truly tell.

Stress can also cause abdominal pain, especially in evenings after a difficult days. Doesn't sound bad, but again, only by visiting a doc can one truly tell if you're ok.

September 17, 2007

I have always ovulated late evern with clomid. can the late ovulation affect egg quality? and can it be a reason for the two miscarriages that i ve gone thr'?

September 17, 2007

Not necessarily whitney, hang in there, k and our community is here to help

September 17, 2007

after the hsg test (been 10 days now), my stomach looks and feels bigger. all my pants are tight.

what cud be the reason behind it?

September 17, 2007

Difficult to say over the net, Whitney, and if you don't feel right, you may need to ask your doc who can examine you to make sure everything is ok.
