August 27, 2007
hello Dr. Q,
I ve read your posts and you are so wonderful in answering frustrated, worried ladies here. so first of all i wud like to thank you for the awsome job that you are doing. Now, here is my history.
I have PCOS (i ovulate regularly, but the cycles are 45-50days long). M 29 years old. Had a miscarriage beggining of the year at 10 weeks (blighted ovum). I have no kids. I was put on 50 mg clomid and 2000 mg metformin after the miscarriage. This is my fourth cycle on clomid and i ve also started taking asprin. Today, on day 41 of the cycle, i took HPT and it showed Positive.........!!!!!!!!!!!!
I m very worried, bcz three days back it didnt show a positve line. so my progestrone cud be low. I went for the blood work today morning and now waiting for the results.
We are travelling by road this friday for the long weekend. and its gonna be a 12 hour long drive. and may be some more driving during the weekend. we ll be back on tuesday though.
should i be travelling so early in the trimester if i m pregnant ?? and shud i continue taking asprin & Metformin?

Hi Whiney,
Thank you for your kind words about our site. Whitney, it is very difficult to say what's going to happen, but I do see some inconsistencies...
an hpt would not be able to turn out positive with a blood value of 1.2...I would recheck your hpt again and if continued positive, would get another blood draw tomorrow, after another hpt check in the am (remember, hpts start detecting at about an hCG level at about 20). If your hpt still flashes positive, you can share this info with your RE for another blood test. For the weekend, and we do hope you're pregnant, it's ok to travel on the road, just stop every 2-3 hours to walk around for a couple of minutes. We recommend this because pregnant women who are sitting down for a prolonged period of time do start developing a risk of leg clots. Please let us know how this journey is unveiling itself...and like always...

Whitney,
The Progesterone is in actuallity very low, and if does appear that you will probably get your period in a couple of days. We're sorry but we do know that you can conceive and things appear to work. Hang in there, and you'll see that soon enough, it will happen to you and we're always here to help

My RE has suggested several tests. cud there be something wrong with the egg quality?? i m so worried. what will i do if they find out something is terribly wrong with me.

Hi Whitney,
depending on what they find, may provide treatment, which may include Heparin, aspirin, Folgard but again all depends on what they find. One can make an argument for you, but also ask for these tests. Egg quality is primarily an issue in women older 37 or who have endometriosis. Good luck, think you'll be ok, and please keep us posted

so sorry to hear about ur loss...never thought that getting pregnant would be on my mind 24 by 7!wanted to ask u a question here, how did u come to know that u have pcos? even my cycles are regular 21-24d and i also ovulate on my own, have some cysts on the ovaries which do not resemble the typical pcos pearl of strings...doc said i might have it or i might not have it, the treatment would still be the same but i really want to know for sure :( ...so just wanted to know how was yours detected?
thank u liane, Meghan, Champ and Dr. Q.
i know u understand my pain. i m so scared to get the further tests done. and will always be scared to get pregnant now on.
its getting frustrating month after month.and i ve lost hopes after this miscarriage.
champ,
after my first miscarriage my Ob did some blood tests to check LH, FSH and insulin resistance. and from the blood work report, she told me that i have PCOS.

Whitney,
Please don't be scared and we know it's tough, but it's important to hang in there. Take a month off if you must, then would definately get more blood tests, and if something turns out, then you'll get treatment for it. We're here to see you through and like always, we're wishing you the best!

got HSG tests done, there is nothing wrong with my tubes. m going for the other blood tests for recurrent miscarriage very soon. I m so worried. what if they find out something abnormal with me or my husband. My RE is also going to perform karyotype tests.
what will happen if there is some abnormality with my or my husband's chromosomes?? in that case will i be able to have a baby ever???

Hi Whitney,
We're first of all, hopeful that there'll be a normal karyotype. If there is not, then conception can be possible and easily fascilitated through the use of PGD, where normal karyotyped embryos can be replaced back into the uterus after IVF. This is the worst case scenario, but as you see, it's still possible.
