Clomid - when is the best time to take it?

Dr. Q,

I am wondering when is the best time to take clomid. I know most doctors say cd5-9. I typically ovulate early between cd10-11 with a 26 day cycle. I wonder if i should take clomid earlier like on cd1? It seems to me that it would give more time for my follicles to grow. This cycle was my first cycle on clomid and I got only one follicle that grew to a moderate size (13mm) plus I also got a cyst (31mm). Last cycle i did not take clomid and i had a follicle grow to 24mm and there were no cysts. Is this just a coincidence or could clomid not be working for me? I don't want to keep wasting cycles and wonder what my next step should be? thnx

I'm not an expert, but I've read where those who take it earlier (i.e. 3-7 ad 1-5) have a greater chance of multiples and possibly m/c because they are more immature...but lots seems to take it during those times, so maybe there are more medical reasons that might warrant it....good questions for the Doctors

Doesn't truly matter when you take clomid, but maybe does make sense if in your case you take it earlier, but under your doc's supervision...

Although many get pregnant on Clomid, not everyone does and these people need to move on to more aggressive treatment only an RE can provide

Although technically it is believed multiples may be greater if Clomid is taken earlier, this hasn't been proven, but occasionally shown

thanks for the uplift......ill be ok once my AF shows....my nipples are so sore, and that is so not what normally happens.......theyre standing on end practically!.....could that be a symptom of the clomid? or can clomid make your pms different than normal? I usually have a burning sensation in my ovaries b4 AF, haven't felt that yet.........so, i guess ill wait (like I have a choice)

I am not sure - I have had relatively no side effects at all with clomid. In faxct I believe it won't help me. But I will have to discuss with my doctor i guess. Is there a chance you coudl still be pregnant?

I would talk to your doctor....I definitely could feel some side effects.....can't imagine not feeling something......so many do, it definitely warrants a conversation.......although I have read some posts where someone would say they didnt feel any side effects the first month or two and then felt them.....clomid is supposed to be long term...in the body for more than the month you take it.....so maybe your body just needs more time to adjust to it....just a thought

as for me.....a week ago i was very hopeful.....i had cramps (not like my PMS), naseau, and sore boobs.......i dont feel any of that but the sore nipples now........but now im cd 30 and dont feel any symptoms of AF either......ive read where it took weeks for some to get positives, i wish that would be my case, but honestly i think my cycle is just longer, which stinks cuz I'm going out of town next month and need to hurry this process up as to time it right.....but i guess there's still some hope in me, i just dont want to be disappointed........if no AF by Monday morning, im going to test again.....and no matter what call the doctor

sending you positive baby vibes!!!! My AF is due to show on Tuesday and i feel no symptoms that would indicate pregnancy. I am sure she will show up plus I found out about the high levels of prolactin and the cyst - so pretty much no chance. Also, my temps are getting lower.

I have never done the temp thing........whats the deal there? you keep a record and if temp rises, it means what exactly?

thanks for the vibes, im not really sure if there is hope or not, but i still have some.......just b/c ive read where so many didnt get positives until weeks after expected AF, and one girl said she never got a positive, but did from the blood test.....but then i think, i wouldnt be one of those lucky ones

keep me posted........if I dont start my AF by Monday im testing, if its bfn, i just want my AF so I can try again. I'm not sure I'm feeling any symptoms either at this point

Im just frustrated b/c I did my 2ww...and here I am, bfn and no AF....come on, I need a bfp or a AF.

What's your plan......gonna try clomid again next cycle? gonna take it earlier....I was thinking of that too...but I was going to go 4-8 or 3-7. But Dr. Q said it makes sense for you to try earlier??? what about the cyst? can that be treated somehow?
