Hello.

I have had irregular period since I was a late teenager. I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend (now husband) for at least 5 years and never got pregnant. I decided to go on the pill to regulate my periods (they were coming every 3-6 months). I missed a few days taking the pill and got pregnant in 2004 and had a healthy baby in 2005. Now we would like to conceive again and the dr's wont put me on birth control to get pregnant. They put me on clomid which is causing me to ovulate but I'm not getting pregnant. December made cycle 5 of clomid 50mg. Earlier this month I went through two rounds of IUI treatment and the pregnancy test came back today negative. I also found out today my husbands sperm count is a little low so they think that may be an issue. I just don't get how it could high enough before to conceive and a few years later lower. I would like to go back on birth control to conceive since it worked before but the drs are telling me its not the right way to do it. What do you think?

Also, before we found out the news today about my husbands sperm count, the drs said my cervical mucus was very thick due to the clomid and there was no way that the sperm would be able to travel. I tried the Robitussin to thin it and it didnt work. This whole thing is so upsetting. Im just really wondering how I was able to get pregnant before and not now. The dr also said I have PCOS so infertility is an issue and sometimes can not be explained.

I have often wondered if I should get back on the pill too but my docs have also refused. I got pregnant as soon as I stopped taking the pill back in 07 but lost the baby at 20weeks. I haven't been able to get pregnant since and my hubby really high counts but low morph and average motility. This whole fertility things is so weird, I just don't see why we can't get pregnany again since it happened so easily before.

I'm on clomid and gonal f this cycle and had an iui last week. IUI should really take care of the cervical mucus and sperm issue. Are you doing another round of iui?

Im sorry to hear about your loss. Have you had tests done? tried IUI?

The dr told me that BC actually thins the cervical mucus and clomid thickens it. If there is a issue with my husbands sperm count then I dont want to do the IUI again until I know its okay. The whole IUI thing was really weird to me when we got pregnant the first time the natural way. Im sure its a combo of a few things(i.e. stress, etc). Im really going to try to argue the BC again though. her reasoning for not giving it to me is because "its not the right way to get pregnant." She says that there wouldnt be any side affects though.

Hi Ren,

Sounds like it's time to visit an RE after this many attempts at Clomid so that you can have more aggressive treatments

yep Im seeing a fertility specialist now and she wants to keep me on 50mg of clomid since I am ovulating on that. I've had all the tests done including getting my tubes checked out and eveything is fine. I was told that with PCOS infertility is sometimes just unexplained. I just keep thinking that bc may be the other way to go but she doesnt think this....
